What was the most honest thing you have done to other people?

Everyone of us here have done something honest to someone like returning an extra change for your purchase or more.
For me was this: I was on my way for work one morning when I saw a nice N series nokia phone on the empty sit beside me on the tricycle. I told the driver about it and he said he will return it to the owner. I doubted he would for he was feeling uneasy already. And I can sense it. So I scan the numbers on the phone and call someone from that list using my own 3310 nokia phone. The phone I saw was better than mine. If I was so selfish I would say "finders keepers" but I prefer to have a good phone by my own effort not by knowing someone had lost theirs for me.
So I meet with the owner of the phone that afternoon and returned the phone. He did not give anything as a reward just a thank you and I was already happy with that. And now I have my own N series Nokia N76 phone by my own effort.
How about you? What was your most honest experience.

hijndlponti well I am not sure if this qualifies or
not but it was an honest effort on my part. the cashier
'in vons grocery store made an error, she gave me back
twenty dollars too much in change. When I tried to give
it back to her, and said you gave me twenty dollars too
much, she got really angry, and said, dont hold up the
line, just take your change, I never make errors. okay
'so as the people behind me were murmuring hurry up I
did just that. I put the money in my handbag and walked
out the door. I was angry at her for making such a loud
'scene when I was trying to do the honest thing. I knew
damned well she had made an error.

The scenario you explained is the best example of why being honest is dangerous. :)

Hi Hatley, cho chweet. :) It is something god gave you. :) Why do you feel angry about that? :) Look at it like this, may be you'd been denied some monies that was rightfully yours. And you may not have been able to get it back! So god is finding ways and means to return it to you. Knowing how honest you are, he decided let me give it in installments otherwise this lady is going to return all the money!:) Hugs. :)

Hi hatley... I believe you did an honest thing.
I experience that. And my mother just said that maybe the cashier was just pretending to be angry as a defense mechanism because she could not accept her mistake. And knowing that a lot of people are in line, she thought that if she would accept your opinion she would be shame in front of all those people in line and the credibility of their store will also be put at risk.
So never mind her. And I agree with Vandana that maybe that is God's way of rewarding you. You deserve that amount. Use it for a good purpose.

I always try to be honest when possible. I went to a book sale the other day and the lady was chatting away with me and gave me too much change. I just took the excess and handed it right back to her. I could have just kept it and not say a word but I am not that way.
I think the very most honest thing I ever did was break up with someone. I had this boyfriend and he was a great guy and a great boyfriend just not the one for me. I knew he was in love with me and I liked him a lot but I never saw myself falling in love with him or feeling the way about him that he did about me. So for his sake I broke it off with him. It was the right thing to do, sure I liked him and enjoyed his company but he deserved to find someone that would love him back the way he deserved to be loved. I was just wasting his time and mine being with him because it was never going to be forever thing so I wanted to him to be free to find his real Ms. Right. Soon after that I found my Mr. Right and I hope he found the right woman for him that will love him as he deserves to be loved.

That is really honest ladym... I appreciate you have that courage to do that. You really are strong and you are really honest that you do not wanted to be unfair to him.
By that God give you the right guy for you as your reward. I am sure that he could also find the right woman for him since he is a loving guy as you said.
Thank you for sharing with us your story. I really appreciate your honesty.

How I wish you were the one who found my phone.
I dont remember doing something like that really. All I remember when I read your discussion are the important items that I lost. All of them have been returned to me thankfully, except for this last one. The last good deed that I remember doing was when I was still a child an old lady asked me to accompany/support her while walking to the street corner store. The last time I found an item was during class. Someone forgot to bring his notebook. We dont really know each other so I had no idea which person to look for. The professor was still in the room so I 'surrendered' the notebook binder to him. He took a look at it then told me to just leave it where I found it cause probably the owner will just go back for it.

I hope so I was the one who found your phone. I will surely look for a way to find the owner and return the item.
maybe in your case you were not yet given that much bigger responsibility of being honest. Maybe one of this days you will have your chance too, so good luck on that day!!
What you did for an old lady is very nice knowing that you were still a child that time. And also for the notebook, sometimes there are really times that we just have to let it be on that place so the owner could trace it back.

Hi jndlponti, one of our family friend's daughter and myself we were traveling back home, and she suddenly spotted a lot of money in a dirty bag lying under the seat. I was older of the two. I told her let us return it to the police station because I was afraid once we reach home, the true claimant would come and get hold of one of the family members or commit some crime. I was also afraid we wouldnt know who is the tru claimant. It was hard cash. There are several such instances. :)

That was really hard. You are right that you should surrender it to the police so they will be the one to trace the owner of that amount or make an announcement for that. You did just right.

Wow! That must be so kind of you! Good thing that there are lots of us in this world! :)
It was wayback 4 years ago though, but I still remember it.
I have live in Boracay for a year. I used a lot of load for my cellphone so i had my phone installed with a smartload menu by a store there. By then, "loadwallet menu" in the country is not around yet. When you wanted to put a load for your cp,(I always put php3000/month) then you have to request it through the store using SmartMoney. I have my information detailed filled up for their preference.
To make this long story short, i go back to my place already. One time, i received a load thru SMoney, with the amount of php10,000. I was shocked! I thought it came from my bf who was assigned abroad that time. I was waiting for the text or call from him. Instead, it was from the store in Bora. The owner (which i knew) asked me to have the money back. Honestly, I was hesitant at first because it was such a big amount. But i told myself not to be greedy because if you do good for the others, and for yourself, I'm sure you will have a lot and lots of it in return.
I had the php10,000 back and i was so grateful and blessed of doing it. No regret at all! :)

Hi yan_blue8 is your phone a retailer one? If yes then how did you return that amount you still need to sell that amount of load to someone to gain 10,000php back? Or you paid it right then and there?
If not a retailer how did you consume all those amount of load? That was really big amount for a load indeed.LOL..
Good that you really returned the amount since that will be a big loss to the store.

Yes, my phone is a retailer. I have it back under SmartMoney menu. They have it sent through that also. I'm glad i have it back. That was a big amount i know. But i would not sacrifice my conscience
For getting that without doing any hardwork or by just a snap. Its not mine, so I should have it back, which i did, honestly!

One day I went to the Humane Society with my kids to look at the Cats and I wanted to meet with one of the cats so they take you into a special room I noticed a small purse I scanned the contents of the wallet in side but did not notice a license or ID so I gave i to the desk. After that my kids and I left, I went to an ATM and someone had left thier card in the machine. Luckily there was someone inside the bank cause it was closed. I knocked on the drive thru window and told her that I found it in the machine. That was the best I could do for probably two complete strangers in one day. Most people return things to the right people however there are a lot of people that just take things for themselves.

That was good... Doing two honest things in just one day to two complete strangers. Congratulations.
You are true with that, there are people who will just keep things that they saw "finders keepers" they say. I think that kind of people were not thinking that someone somewhere are much worried of the thing they lost.
Hope there will be more people like you who would do honest things to the people who you never knew.
Thank you for being one.
