My littler ones watched their first holiday special last night. That got me to thinking about all the ones I used to watch and which ones that still are around and make me feel a little bit of nostalgia. For me the holiday season is official when the Charlie Brown special is on. The original rudolph also gets to me because I can remember watching it the first time it was on. and the grinch is a given. What holiday special kicks the season off for you? Which one do you look forward to sharing with the little people in your life?

Being Jewish this may sound a little strange but it isn't Christmas without Charlie Brown, rudolph, and The 1938 version of A Christmas Carol. My mom was an agnostic but growing up we celebrated Christmas. When I became Jewish we celebrated botyh Christmas and Hanukkah. Now that she is gone the only things of Christmas I like are the Christmas specials.

Thanks.I am sorry to hear about your mom. I forgot about Miracle On 34th Street. Give me Little Natalie Wood! It is one of those films I didn't get to see every year. I Finally have my own copy of everything that says Christmas. so if there is a hockey game on when they air ,I Still can see them!

Now that's clear thinking. Wings are playing on thanksgiving eve..will be baking pies and watching them in the kitchen and taping special in living room. Oh man..what about the great Jimmy Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life?

It doesn't sound strange at all. My mom is gone too..sorry. I can't believe I left out the Christmas Carol..and yes it has to be the pure black and white version. Also the original Miracle on 32nd street.

Last year, I sat down with my kids to watch the Charlie Brown specials. They don't seem to care for it. I guess my awe for these shows when I was little was the fact that Charlie Brown was just comics, and that it was all so special that they came up with a TV show just for Christmas. Hopefully, they see something this holiday season, and remember it next year. So they can also have their own tradition.

I'm afraid our old classics with their clay mation and non techno color have a hard time competing with what kids expect from their animation these days. Charlie Brown and the Grinch are being shoved out by spongebob and the penguins of madagascar
