One of the most prolific scorers for India in the recent past is Gambhir. With 4 centuries in the last 4 test matches, he has been able to help India grab the initiative at the top. Now he is missing the next test owing to the marriage of his sister. How big a blow is it for Team India?
Cheers!

Are you sure about his unavailability of gambhir in next test match.
If it yes, then it is big blow for india. As from past 1 year he is very consistent opener for india.
Now, who will replace him. Any guesses...

Hi!!
Its sad that Gambhir won't play the third test due to his sister's marriage. He was in form of his life with back to back 4 centuries in 4 tests. But I feel the other batsmen are playing well too and so its not a big concern as it is matter of a single test.I think maybe Dinesh Kartik might be called in for Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid or Kartik would open the innings with Virender Sehwag.I just hope we get a solid start from the openers again which Gambhir and Sehwag pair did in both the test matches.

India willmiss him but not that dearly. Murali Vijay is an able replacement for Gambhir. Though not as flamboyant as Gambhir, he is very effective too. He can be a fast scorer as well if the pitch would assist strokemaking. Else he can stick to the task of accumulation on a slow pace.
The fact that Gambhir was in his purple patch makes his absence even more important. 4 centuries in 4 test matches is no mean feat. Only Gavaskar and Dravid hold that record for India before Gambhir. It says a lot about his consistency. BUt when I say India wont miss him that dearly, it is because the Brebourne pitch is traditionally Slow low bounce. And Indian batsmen can bat on such pitches even in half sleep. With the middleorder in good form there is nothing much to worry about.
If I were to replace Gambhir I would have opted for another spinner and asked Dravid to Open. I think India needs to be more and more aggressive if they are to be there at the top for some time.

Hmm... I think Vijay will play, but we need to see the team composition. Mumbai pitch at this point in time might not be a slow low bounce. This time around I do think that the pitch will play good till at least the third day and then start taking spin.
Cheers!

Yes this is quite unexpected that Gambhir is not playing in the next test match. But we all agree that the Indian team's progress have all round in the passed years. So I don't think that it will be a big blow for the Indians to adjust for a match although we all will look at the television set for Gambhir's attacking styles and consistence batting.
