What is your favorite Christmas song and why is that song your favorite?
Mine is Silent Night because it is such a beautiful song. My daughter was born in the Christmas season seven years ago and during the first three weeks of her life when she couldn't relax that was the song that I used as a lullaby for her. I'd always thought that it sounded like a lullaby before I sang it to her, but singing it to her as a baby made it have an especially important meaning to me.

Hi Dorann.
What a beautiful reason for that being your favorite carol! I love Silent Night, too, and perhaps my most favorite of all is O Holy Night. It's tune is beautiful, but so is the meaning...the spirit of Christmas, for me :)

You are so completely right about children changing everything and in my experience they've changed my life for the better. I've dedicated myself to my own two children and to my two nieces and that is the entire makeup of the woman that I am today. I will sacrifice myself for the betterment of them and it actually makes me happy.

I think that there are so many people that get wrapped up in the commercialism of Christmas that we don't always take the time to think about the true meaning of Christmas. The year that my daughter was born was such a turning point in my life. I too had been the kind of person that was wrapped up in the materialism of Christmas and having this perfect, tiny being that was depending on me and the fact that she was born so close to Christmas really made me think about what Christmas is really all about.

My favorite songs are I Want A Hippoponamus for Christmas and also Baby's First Christmas. Last night I was listening to a sad Christmas song called "Bring Him Home, Santa". The song was written two years ago and a six year old girl sings it. It talks about her wanting to change her list from wanting a Barbie doll to just wanting her dad to come home. Every time I hear the song I start crying.
I also love the song Silent Night.

I think I've heard the song that you are referring to and I believe that it made me cry as well. I've never been in the shoes of wanting Santa to bring home my father for Christmas, but it is something that so many children are having to deal with these days that the song is just perfect.

It is a sad song. There is a video online. I saw the video last night online and I started crying. The video is on you tube. On Friday night my husband and I went to tree lighting ceremony and Santa was there. There was a four year old girl who wanted her daddy to be off from work for Christmas. At first my husband and I thought he worked as a police officer or some profession that has people working all the time. It was not until she said he works far away that I realized her was over in the war. I started crying. My heart went out to her.

I love them all except the really dumb ones..like Santa got run over by a reindeer and I do have a sick sense of humor so it is not I am worried about being politically correct but that song is just dumb.
I love Santa Baby and The Christmas Song. My all time favorite is the Christmas Waltz by the Carpenters.

I honestly don't think that I am familiar with the Christmas Waltz that you've mentioned. I'm going to have to look and see if I can listen to it online because I grew up as a fan of the Carpenters. In fact, when my parents got married, their first dance song was We've Only Just Begun by the Carpenters.

This usually shocks people, but Christmas songs make me cry... Well, the fast ones don't, they're fun to sing along with, but the really pretty ones, the slow ones, make me sad and I usually end up crying.... Weird, huh? It's really too bad because I absolutely love the sound of Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra... I could listen to anything they sing - as long as it's not about Christmas!

It's really not all that shocking at all because the slow Christmas songs are all so beautiful and they are all so heartfelt. The fact that we know the story of Jesus' life and what it all came to is enough reason in and of itself to make us cry when we really thing about it.

I believe that part of the reason that it is so popular is that it is a truly beautiful song. Thank you so much for sharing.
