Before I start responding everywhere and try and get as much done as I can I suppose I will tell you about my lovely Day .......not
I got up at 8am which was a lie in for me, normally I am up at 6am, anyway I made a coffee switched on the Laptop, went to see what Emails had come through
8.15am I started to type .... bang..... everything went of, no electric, so I sit and wait patiently, nothing, no service on my Mobile Phone even, not able to use my Phone as it is cordless so controlled by electric, no heating, controlled by Electric
9am ........no electric getting cold by this time, My Cooker is gas so heated water and made myself and my 2 Neighbours a Coffee as the 2 Neighbours have an electric Cooker,
10am..... no electric, getting dressed as really cold now, took Gissi out and see the whole Village has no electric, come back in, boil more Water, fill the Hot Water Bottle, boil more Water, make a coffee for Neighbour and myself, Boil more Water and fill a Flask for Neighbour upstairs so they could at least have a hot Drink
12pm.........no electric, breathing hurts, I am wearing a T shirt, big Fleece, thick socks, Tracksuit bottoms, A Hot Water Bottle and a Blanket, I am shivering
12.30..... had enough went to bed took Gissi and Hot Water Bottle with me
3.15pm.........I wake up, guess what ..........no Electric, by this time I feel a Panic Attack coming on, please do not ask why, I do not know I suffer with them, I guess I felt cut of, with no phone or anything, most Neighbours had gone out, my breathing was not very good and that scared me
I got dressed warm and took Gissi out stayed out as long as I could
4.15pm........no electric, by this time I am close to tears, as I felt I could not breathe, my Nose and Face where freezing, my Body was not to bad but still cold
5pm ........ I must have fallen asleep,
7.10pm........ I wake up as the Lights came, yeahhhhhhh........noooooooooo they went of again, I started to cry, I was cold, I was hungry and it hurt to breathe when I was able to breathe properly ,
7.30pm......... Lights come on again, I hold my Breath and well so far now at 8.20pm I still have ELECTRIC, I am now trying to warm up and I really hope this does not happen again
Gissi had a bit of Fun though, like pulling the Cushion from under my Head, while I was sleeping, then pulling the Blanket onto the Floor, as he thought we needed to play, attack the Water Bottle because he did not like the noise it made, eventually he got the message, mum was not able to play
So that was my Day

I am so sorry that you had such a bad day. No electricity for that long would get me upset too. Do you get panic attacks or do you have asthma? I'm glad that the electricity is back and I hope it stays that way. As for my day it was a day of cleaning, laundry, babysitting my precious granddaughter, paying bills and mylotting. Its also been a very overcast day with not a bit of sun and its 50 degrees out side now which is not to bad. Overall my day has been pleasant and quiet. I hope tomorrow brings you a much better day. Take care.

yikes! How horrid! Any idea WHY you guys were without power?
I need to clean my furnace for the really cold weather to come, but so far we've gotten along with just blankets.
At least YOU had hot water and were kind enough to make some for your neighbors.
I've been busy busy busy, but so far its not been too taxing - at least I started with a good night's sleep!

Hi gabs...my what a lovely day you had...NOT. It is eerie when something like this happens as you feel not only cut off, but out of control and out of it. NYC area on and off over the decades has had it's whoopers of blackouts, sometimes lasting several days to boot. I'm lucky that I have a gas stove...hate to think what and how people cope when they have electric stoves. Our last major blackout happened in the summertime though, so at least didn't feel cold...but then since it happened in August it was hot so no way of cooling down

What a day, really. Must be one of those moments. I do experience this too, at times and it can be a real bummer when we need something like the electricity badly and it goes out on us. And especially when your breathing was not very good, do take extra care yeah. Hope you are fine and stay indoors most of the time.

Today Hubby and I came home from spending the night with great grandmother, we came at 12:00. Got on the computer for a minute, tested our video games, heated turkey and ham, ate it, gave hubby water bottles, a hug and a kiss, and told him I'd see him later got back on the computer, went to eat lunch with him (his mom came 2), came home, and now am mylotting again. Hubby gets off in half an hour so am mylotting as much as I can until then... getting kind of thirsty.
Today was uneventful. Thanksgiving was hectic. On Thursday, We came home from great grandmother's, did much of nothing, went back for lunch, then to my dad's for dinner, came home, went to bed, got up really early for black friday, woo.

Losing electricity isn't a fun way to start the day. I remember when we lost power for 2 days. That wasn't fun. We had our fireplace to keep us warm. It wasn't as warm as it would have been if the furnace was running.
We didn't do too much today. We did manage to get to the grocery store to pick up a few necessities.
My daughter is sick with the flu. She has had this for about 4 days now. I hope she is up and about soon.
Loved the 4 day weekend! It was heaven to sleep-in!
Sending Big Huggers to you!

It really frightens me that in this day and age we are at the mercy of the power companies. If terrorists were to strike to knock out a whole country, that's all they have to do...hit the power suppliers and the communications towers...many phones would still be available and people could still use their cars. How come your mobile phone did not work Gabs?

On this particular day, I was in San Francisco with my daughter and a friend and her daughter. Her daughter had dancing classes, so after she went to class, the three of use went out and had breakfast. Then we drove over the Golden Gate bridge and parked on the other side and took in the view. It was a gorgeous crystal clear day. Then my friend went back to the room and got her daughter some lunch and took a nap and Dearra and I walked through Chinatown. We did a little shopping and headed back when Dearra started complaining about being tired. Pretty good, a 13 year old tiring out before her 51 year old mom. lol We got out of Chinatown and had some lunch (Dearra not wild about Chinese food). And then went back and watched her friend's dance competition and then drove home. It was a very nice day. Sorry that you didn't have such a great day!

Isn't it terrible when we realize how we depend on modern conveniences. We are an all electric house except for a wood burning stove which we rarely use due to the expense of burning wood. But we can even heat water on it if necessary. When we first moved here, 20 years ago the electric company was not very good and would often go off for hours but now it doesn't happen to much. I'm sorry you got so scared, but I can understand why. Stay warm and safe..

AWWWWWW, Gabby...
Days like that is when it's nice to own a mellow cat!!!
The last time I had that problem, I grabbed the cat & headed straight for bed. Cats don't like being cold either & they're not as hyper as Gissi, so they will curl up with you & lay still. Between your body heat & theirs, you can stay relatively WARM!!!! I'm glad your electric came back on. Night time is the absolute WORST time to have no heat!!! I'm glad you've gotten your heat back on!!!
I hope tomorrow is a BETTER day!!!

Oh, That sucks! I totally feel for you- hate being without...
anything really but electricity is the worse. We need that for everything to work.
I am glad it finally came on for you..
I fortunately just had a lazy day watching movies on TV. Then I want to bed at 4:15pm so that I could rest before coming to work...And here I am..
reading how bad your days was. I feel as you do- I would have hated the cold and I have asthma and that would not have helped my breathing either.
Fingers crossed that your electric stays on now.

It sounds like you had a terrible and frightening day. Do they know why the village was without power? I was at my brother's most of the day, and have traveled back home this evening. Kind of crunched up in the back seat, as we took my son and he is very tall. We put him in the front seat. It is a four hour trip. I was safe and warm though, and I am so sorry that you were not.

My goodness Gabs what a dreadful day you had. I am so happy to hear the power finally came back on. I am sure your neighbors were very happy you were able to supply them with hot drinks. My heating is gas but I think it needs electric power to start it running and my stove is electric. For me is is terrible in the hot humid Georgia summers if the power goes off and I have no air conditioning.

No one had heat unless they had one of those Calagas Heaters as you say even though the heating is gas it needs electric supply so everyone was without heat in the Village, I know a lot of People went out for the Day lol probably to go to visit Friends and relatives lol

That does not sound like a fun day at all. It is never good when one of the utilities goes out like that and we are stuck with no utilities or heat. Espcially when the weather is cold like that. I hope you are OK now and that your electric stays on and keeps you nice and warm. Because that is certainly no fun to be so cold like that.

Hey Gaby,
I hope you are doing ok. Did you ever find out what was wrong? Do you have asthma? My hubby has asthma and says that the cold weather makes it difficult to breathe.
How awful it was for you and Gissi today. I am so glad you have heat and electricity again. What was the temperature there today? Tomorrow will be a better day. Stay warm sweetie. Hugs to keep you warm.

Hi Gabs,
Oh, hun, I am so sorry you had such a horible day, its nothing worst then a power cut, I hate it too, you just can't do anything, its bad enoygh been cold and in the dark but no phone or computer, that really sucks, thank god you got your electric back. My day was not good either, I went out this morning for my swine flu jab and was going to get a taxi but had to go into town to post some cards off, yes, it was a long que there, then went to the chemist to get my eyeliner, qued as per usual, then stood outside wondered wether to get a tazi or not? I was near the bus stop so I decided to wait for the bus, but did I wait and waited, by then there was a long que for the bus, the bus was very late and I was getting very cold and wished that I took the taxi, about an hour later the bus arrived, it took me a long while to get thawed out, switched computer on and and hour later I fell asleep, which is very unusual for me, well now I am feeling a little better but my arm is still aching, I'll live. love and hugs.
Tamara
