Why do you think Law & Order SVU is so enormously popular?

..In comparison to it's other shows of the same franchise: The original & Criminal Intent. What's your take on this? Is it mainly because of the phenomenal characters like Stabler & Benson, Finch & Tutuola? Or is, do you think, because the show is a lot more.. "out in the field" and less in a courtroom? What's your take on this?

I still love the original one, have watched it since it began. I think stablers character is so well played that it sucks you in. Being One of the best written shows on the air probably counts for it's s still being around as well.
I don't like the new people on Criminal intent that much either.Jeff Goldblum isn't doing it for me. If it's true that Vince is leaving that show I will probably stop watching this one.

I like the characters better on SVU and the stories are more interesting. There is more interaction with crime victims so you get more of a feel good feeling from that show. I also don't like how they've changed some of the regular cast on Criminal Intent. I'm not warming up to them very well. BTW, Finch and Tutuola are a trip.
