Christmas Ornaments and tradition  

Me and my mom kind of do something like that. We also buy three new ornaments a year. One for each of the dogs. Suprisingly, the dogs seem to like the tree. The only other tradition we have is opening gift Christmas Eve night and sleeping in Christmas morning.

Your tradition, and your parents are both wonderful.

Some of ours are that I have a sister who still gives each family member a hand-crafted ornament every year.

We always had an advent calendar for the kiddos when they were home, and as they set up their own little manger scene, I'd read to them the Christmas story from the Bible. The Night Before Christmas was also read each year.

Now, the biggest extended family tradition is that each of us is requested to bring to the biggest family gathering each year what has become "our Christmas specialty dish" to pass.

Hi OpinionatedLady, I am so glad to spot a discussion of yours. :) You are a good friend material. :) So I must not lose you as a friend. :) I actually came to wish you and your family Merry Christmas in advance. :) Well, come to think of it, there is nothing so sweet in our traditions! That would be nice to keep the things made by children, isn't it? We never really had a tradition. Growing up though in school some of our teachers would end up having us make a lot of Christmas crafts and those crafts would sometimes be ornaments. I'd bring them home and they would get put on the tree. I still have a lot of them and each year we had our big tree those would get put on the tree right along with the others.

I had a friend in highschool whose family each year would buy a special ornanment. They used to buy the kids ornaments and whenever the kids got old enough they would start buying their own. They'd put them on the tree the same day and then those could be taken with them whenever they left.

In my grandmothers last years she would give me one of her old vintage ornaments each year. I usually find a theme for our tree and buy several ornaments with that going on. When we go to take down the tree the kids can chose from these and keep them if they like. I also have gotten ornaments that represent each of over the years. If one of the kids like one I give it to them.

In our family we don't have a tradition our Christmas always been simple. Only my mother do the Christmas decoration because I don't have a patience in decorating. Here in the Philippines our Christmas is much merrier and different compare to other countries.

we bought our decorations from malls only. we usually buy those plastic ornaments. we have different small ornament we put on the christmas tree. i love decorating my christmas tree. it is so easy to do and yet the result is very beautiful. i love to see the beautiful outcome of the decoration.

My children and I love to decorate the Christmas tree each year. We try to buy someething new for the tree each year. Some of my favorite ornaments are ones that my children made in school.

i have also done that with my daughters but i dont know if they will have them when they get older (some are lost and broken...) another thing we have done with our daughter for several years is we have a felt advent tree and i have put little gifts and notes in the pockets for the whole month of december. i often get them inexpesive things like lip gloss (i have two girls) or a package of kleenex or school supplies. some days its just a note like "we are proud of you both' but they like the days that say 'see mommy for a treat'!!

My parents always bought us an ornament each year as well. I remember growing up up my brother, sister and I always made home made ornaments for my grandparents. Now I buy at least one ornament a year and when I have children of my own I will buy them one a year as well. That way when they move away they will have ornaments already. I like the idea of you making your own ornaments.
