What was your favorite toy that you received for Christmas?

I was reading another discussion and they were talking about being handy, which brought to mind my favorite Christmas gift. Except it wasn't mine. I was about 5 years old when my brother got an erector set for Christmas. He didn't play with it much, but I fell in love with it and would play with it by the hour! My parents quietly had fits because girls were to play with dolls...but not me. It has stood me in good stead all these years as I am Ms. Handyperson! I have done plumbing, fixed cars, built furniture, fixed sewing machines and television sets and more; all thanks to playing with that erector set. What was your favorite toy and why?

Well, I really don't know, just because I have many favorite toys, but one of them is a big singing robot with a receiver on his head and a telephone buttons on its stomach, and when I push some button it sing a different melody! I still have it, but I don't know if it still work, because I haven't played with it from years!

I think my favorite Christams present from childhood was my Barbie Family van (I can't remeber the exact name of it). When I first opened it, I wasn't that thrilled because it wasn't the EXACT Barbie toy I had asked for. But eventually I grew to love it. It became my favorite toy and I spent many hours playing with it and putting my Barbie dolls in it. ^-^

I think my favourite Christmas present was Meccano (is that an 'erector set'? ... it consisted of lots of strips of metal and plates with holes and nuts and bolts to join them together with). It began with a very basic Set 1 and then every Birthday or Christmas one might get "1a" (which made it into Set 2) and then 2a and so on. You could also get special kits of gears and motors (clockwork and electric, though I don't think I ever had an electric one) which would power our constructions - cars, trains, tractors, cranes, bridges and more! I also attribute my skills in mending things largely to that early construction toy. I think I am not as afraid of taking something apart, knowing that I can probably put it back together again, as many people. It's really that confidence that allows one to mend things rather than any previous knowledge of how things work. In taking something apart, one learns how it works and how it goes together again. I think that much of that confidence comes from putting something together from the instructions supplied in those kits and from trying to make something from one's own design.

I can't say any present that stuck with me more than my telescope. I gave it up when my folks moved to an apartment, but I didn't have time to take it out anymore. I got it in 9th or 10th grade.

We must be two peas in a pod---my mother was constantly getting me "girly" things, like Barbie dolls, a small kitchen playset with stove, sink and washer...blaugh...the only toy I really went bananas over was a Lionel train set....poor thing I wore out the motor of that set in no time flat

My old time favorite toy was my Cabbage Patch Kid doll named Tracey. I loved her and took really good care of her. I would push her around in a baby carriage and feed her from a bottle. I haven't seen her in years. I also used to love Barbie dolls.
