Hi everyone.
I know most of us around the world are celebrating the holidays in form or another this time of year. I live in the USA and we have TV specials, those shows that are focused on a holiday theme. Some are new each year, such as the singing and parades and such. But others, both cartoons and movies, are considered classics. Some became popular even before I was born, and others came into being when my own kids were young. Many of us watch our same favorite holiday TV showings year after year.
Some of my favorites:
Its a Wonderful Life
Miracle on 34th Street
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
Whether you live in the US or anywhere else in the world, what are your favorite holiday things to watch on TV? What do you like about them?

I haven't watched any Christmas special , i don't ever unless it is something new & then it has to be someone i like alot. I really don't watch that much tv. A friend of mine calls me scrooge every year * i guess she is right. I have not had any spirit in years. My grandmother was like that & i use to think it so strange but have gotten just like her. I buy presents & i cook but that's about good as it gets around my house.

Thanks for the kind words. The friend i was telling u about that calls me that is years older than i am, a widow & she gets out & puts lights on the outside of her house & does all kind of decorating on the inside. I admire her for doing so but i tease her every year when the holidays are over & she has to take it all down etc.I tell her now see if u were scrooge like me u wouldn't have all that to do.

Well, I admire her ability to do that! I know I couldn't do the outside any justice, unless you count wreaths on the doors. But yup, soon enough, it all has to be taken down and stored away again. I've paired back considerably since I'm on my own now, but still do my small tree, the wreathes, and few other odds and ends. And I have to have my carols and movies!

Now Jo, I can't quite see you as Scrooge lol. I don't watch a lot of TV either, but I do make certain exceptions ; ) Spirit comes in many forms, and frankly, for a lot of people the gifts, food, and family are the best parts of the holidays, so I'd say in that respect, you participate wonderfully well.

Hello peaceful, during the winter months my family has a tradition of either watching movies or playing games every other weekend since there isn't that much that we can get outside and do and this weekend is our movie weekend and christmas movies are exactly what we will be watching...we are going to be watching both the original Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman and then Frosty Returns. We went ahead and bought these christmas cartoons a few years back and have been watching them every year since. Another one of my favorites is A Christmas Story and last year my husband got the DVD for me for Christmas and so this year I am going to have us all watch it on Christmas Day, weirdly enough my kids have never saw it so i am hoping that they like it and they maybe we can make this one also a part of our traditions...

Hi Froggies
Isn't is great to have these on DVD? I love that you and your family have those special weekends set apart to do such things. I miss that about my kids being young and at home. Aww, your kids will be sure to love The Christmas Story. I left out so many of the other good ones, too.
Enjoy!

There are a lot of good Christmas movies and it can really be fun to watch some of them every year. After all the busy Christmas activities, it can really be relaxing to watch some of the movies. Certainly it helps to keep the holiday stress under control.

For me, and promise you won't laugh it's Wizard of Oz, I never get tired of watching it, it's one of my all time favourites, and it's on this Christmas, well Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Dorothy and Toto would it LOL! My other favourite is Home Alone now that is a Christmas film! I like both Home Alone 1 and 2, MacCauley Culkin is excellent and it's such a funny, light hearted, family film, so those are the two films we will be sitting down to watch amongst others of course.

Hi Wolfie.
You know, funny that you should mention that movie. It used to be on traditionally at Christmas time when I was a child, and it mesmorized me! It's not on at Christmas time any more, but I have the video :))
And oh yes, the Home Alone movies are totally hilarious! I just love certain standard things about the holidays and those two have become just that :))

Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street are two of our favorite Christmas movies. We even have two versions of Miracle on 34th Street. My wife just mentioned to me that she had found a website that had a lot of these christmas movies available to watch online.
Here is a link to Nestor the long eared Christmas Donkey on that site. Enjoy!

Hello again :))
How wonderful to have that link! Then I can watch some of my favorites if they don't happen to appear on TV or if two good ones are on at the same time. I love Nestor!
Thank you again.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji,
So nice of you for your positive comments. All such reality shows are only o earn money, they are based on some screen acts/plays/music. Nothing is in natural. So I hardly see them.
May God bless You and have a great time.

There are several that I can think of that stand out to me. Again, like with you some of them I remember from my childhood and others I remember from later in my life but I enjoy watching them every Christmas season none the less.
My list is:
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Frosty the Snowman
The Santa Clause
Home Alone
The reason that I like the first two is because I remember all sitting down as a family to watch them when I was a children. The reason that I like the second two are because they are just fun movies involving the holidays.

Hi Dorann.
This was one of our holiday traditions when the kids were young and still all home...eagerly awaiting our favorite Christmas movies and cartoons to be shown. You have a good list :) ...all ones we used to watch, back in the day.

Hi Gabs.
The holidays definitely do change from when we were children. The movies are a great way to float back in time for a while and forget present day pressures :)

I think, we all have our favorite shows during holidays. We have a long holiday during the month of OCT-NOV when we celebrate all major festivals. The television channels remodel their shows and show timings. I love the shows relating the festivals like game shows, quizzes, live telecast of celebrations. I also like the food shows. Since this is the time every household has special food to enjoy, most of which we eat exclusively during festivals, a lot of regional channels have cooking shows. I just love watching them with my mom. She would prepare some later and we have great time together.

Hello Mimpi :)
You're right, many of the traditional shows turn to things festival related in each country at certain times of the year. As in your country, right now many of the morning shows and talk shows and even the news casts turn to all things holiday...the foods and events and ways to participate and decorate. It's fun to learn new things this way. Isn't cooking with moms delightful?

My two favorites are "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", both from when I was little. I love Boris Karloff's voice on the Grinch and Seuss's words and the songs. And I love Burl Ive's singing on Rudolph.

Hi Kevin
Yes, since the rest of the time you don't get to watch many movies, that sounds like a wonderful and relaxing thing to do on Christmas day! I hope you enjoy it.
