christmas dinner at home?  

I will need to get up early so that we can eat around midday as I have to be at work for 1.30pm until 9.30pm on Christmas Day. It means I will have to leave the dishes for someone else to wash

You sound like I used to be. I worked at home doing typesetting and proofreading for almost 20 years. I'd work on holidays because if I didn't work, I didn't get paid.

Anyway, yes, I'll be home. We used to have Thanksgiving dinner at my mother's house and Christmas dinner at my house. Since my mother's death in 2007, though, it is all up to me now. This is where the family gathers.

We've always had Christmas dinner at home because of my kids. I had one sister who never had children of her own so everyone thought it would be best to have dinner at my house so my kid wouldn't get "edgy" because they weren't home with their brand new toys. It worked out quite nicely.

Now, though, I do it all. I actually love all the to-do with Christmas. The cleaning, the decorating, the cooking, the baking, and, uh, well, okay, I'm not fond of cleaning up but the rest of it is something I always look forward to.

Christmas Day we will be home in the morning so the kids can open their presents and play with them a little bit, then later in the afternoon we will be going to my sister in laws house to spend time wiht my huaband's family. We spend Christmas Eve with my family every year. So we will be at other people's houses.
