Solstice yesterday, I didn't get to do anything. I worked. Someday, I will be able to not work on my 4 days and my birthday. It's a goal I have. So are you able to do things on your holidays?

I worked, of course. I actually volunteered to work for Christmas because I took some days off beforehand. I did have Thanksgiving off, which is very important to me.

I often had to work Christmas and Thanksgiving when I worked for the ARC. But they tried to make it so everyone only had to work 1/2 a day, so that wasn't bad.

I guess I'm ready for a year that I'll have off. I guess that'll be next year.

I am now retired so my time is pretty much my own. I do quite a bit of babysitting our youngest grandbaby so that keeps me busy. The days vary and so do the times. I love it. What I generally do on my birthday is go to the casino and play Keno.

That's a different way to celebrate a birthday. Good luck!

Do you not have a law in your country protecting religious rights? In Canada you can book religious holidays off and they cannot deny it. I usually do a little something myself. However I have been taking a wiccan 101 course and my teacher has invited me to some of her coven's rituals. Its really great. I actually just dedicated to the coven so I will be spending all the holidays with them.

We held a family/friend gathering and circle on the weekend. We exchange a hand made or person specific gift. I gave my mom a hand done calendar done with pictures of the kids. She loved it. Good food, warm feelings, and all the things that ake family family. My family did a small circle ceremony for the solstice. I sent a copy of it to some sisters who share my path but live far off. We often share like that so we can include each other. It keeps us close. Before the solstice the kids and I did crafts for family, talked about the why behind our traditions, and what Yule means..... We also talked about Christmas an it's traditions because we celebrate it to a certain degree.

Wonderful! If I had been well this past weekend, I could have done something, then, too. Usually if I can't get the day off, I at least do something the closest weekend, but that didn't happen this time.

I'm sooo glad you and your family were able to do that. I wish I and my friends could get together and do something similar. But since each of us are a minority in our families and have to work that day, it's hard. Your Solstice Celebration seems wonderful! When I can finally have that day off or at least be well for the closest weekend, I will take all suggestions here and incorporate the ones that sound the best. I don't know of any children that celebrate it.
