The Best Time of the Year

Okay, I must admit, my crafting has been in high gear the past few weeks. A lot of what I have been making are gifts for family and friends, however, I have now got a ton of ideas for next years gift giving season. I feel that this can be a curse as well as a gift sometimes. I want to stay ahead, but at the same time I'm wondering if I will actually work out all the crafty ideas I have for next year. I feel so overwhelmed by my ideas right now, I'm not sure which way to go. I think I may start off by writing a list with everyone's name on it as to whom I give gifts to every year. Maybe that will help me actually take my time in creating the best crafts for everyone. Then again, if i work on all that I have in mind now, I would be set for the next year. Then again, what about birthdays and such. Hmmm.. What to do? Do you ever get a ton of craft ideas about this time of the year and just want to go crazy creating? It is so hard to shake the desire right now. I think I'm going to attempt to just go with the flow.

I am hoping to get a head start on jewelry making next year. It has been so long since I have made jewelry. This Christmas I have put together home made gift trays with cookies, candy and fudge. I love to bake cookies and make candy. I think if I do a little each year I will be ready for next year. I know this year I had put so much pressure on myself to get things done on time and had spent many hours staying up all night.

I put alot of pressure on myself as well. I also waited until November to start making things, which was really stupid of me. I know that it takes a lot longer to complete certain craft gifts. But, alas, I procrastinated and actually didn't finish everything up. I ended up going and spending money on other gifts for people that I planned on making something for. Well, as part of my "New Year's" resolution. I am going to stay on top of myself by creating a list, you will read in the previous posting that I created a few moments ago in response to someone else. I am hoping I can stick to my list and get everything completed for everyone. That would be the ultimate goal. That and hoping that everyone likes what I have created.

Yes, I have a lot of craft ideas at this time of the year. This creates a problem because i want to make them so here I am with less than two days before Christmas making Christmas gifts.

I am glad to see that I am not the only person that gets overwhelmed with ideas. I just hope that one of my goals this coming year will work for me. I plan to write up a list of everyone that I wish to make something for and what to make each of them. I have been meaning to do this for years, but something always comes up or I loose the list. I plan on tacking it up on the wall in my craft area so I see it every day when I walk by and can then check off things when they are finished. I guess I will post progress on this list here on Mylot. lol. See how that goes.

That's me to a T lol. When the Christmas season really kicks in, then I get a ton of ideas (but short of time!) I finally hit on an idea a few years ago that helped me a lot. I keep a binder notebook, with pockets, and every 'make-it' idea for presents goes in pockets labeled for kids, adults, etc. If I have a special person in mind for a certain item, I jot their name on it. I have a section for kids crafting ideas, because with the grandkids, I always have them make special little presents and ornaments for their parents. Finally, a place to keep those nifty gifty crafting ideas for other holidays through the year too:-) I keep a section for homemade ornaments I want to try and do too. This time of year ideas just keep flooding in, and there is so many I want to try but don't have time. I find that as soon as the stores start putting up their Christmas displays, I turn into a bonafide craft-a-holic with more ideas than energy (or time.) I think it's more a blessing than a curse as it spurs our creativity! I try and 'go with the flow' too.

I used to love to do crafts when I had the luxery of working part time. I did cross stitch, made ceramics, made crochet items and more. However when I had to take a full-time job it really brought my crafting to a screeching halt. By the time I get home from work and get dinner prepapred and cleaned up, it is time to shower and spend a little quality time with hubby. Weekends are spent running my errands and those of my aging mother, doing laundry and other chores. I long to return to my crafts. Perhaps when I retire?!

I know how you feel crazy, I try and find time when I can to work on crafts. It is quite difficult. I work a full time job and have 3 children so time is limited. However, I noticed that during the fall and winter months as things are slowing down for them, I'm able to find a little more time to work on crafts. At work right now, things have been slow, I have been given permission to do what ever to keep myself busy, so I have brought in different projects to work on. It makes it nice, but at the same time, they are crafts that I can set down to do real work if I have to, for example crocheting. I'm also a writer, so I know that time is precious. I have actually started setting myself up with appointments to sit and write. On my calendar just like I would write in a doctor's appointment, I write in a writing schedule. It may not be that much time, but it is set and I make myself sit down during that time to spend it on writing. I'm thinking that might work for crafting as well. Wow, why didn't I think of that one before. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
