Wow, I've been a lot of places, but I've totally missed the central part of the U.S. and now my (5) dollar bill's been places I haven't!

I think that's great. I actually got it in Cedar Park Texas, just north (and a bit west) of Austin and now look where its gone! I wonder how it got there...
The first "Where's George" dollar I ever got had come from Harlingen, another place I've never been...
Do you ever consider how things are? How money changes hands? How things get from one place to another?
Heck, I find money in strange places (not as strange as Maggiepie does) but still strange - like I picked up an empty soda can and found a penny under it yesterday!

Once as I had the valet park my car at a local casino, as I entered the door there was a $100 bill lying there. It was right at the doorway going in on the cement area. The security gaurd said it had been there awhile and legally he can't touch it. He said do what you wish sir. I grabbed it and yelled at the valet to bring my car back now. The security gaurd smiled telling me to have a great night.
I was $100 ahead right away on that casino trip.

awesome! I didn't see any money in any casino I've ever been to, but I saw Kenny Rogers (not on stage) at Treasure Island... My mom and I were hitting the free shows along the part of the strip we were on... and we had just seen the ship sink - I was watching the special effects... like I did see the "captain" grab the air hose when the ship went down, but I didn't see the straps that held him to the ship until he was loosing them as it rose again... We saw the status move at Caesar's, the volcano erupt and some of the shows at Circus Circus...

I've seen some "Where's George" money pass through my cash register at work several times.
Money does go everywhere, and it is kind of gross to think of how many hands its been though sometimes.

Why do you think it's called "filthy lucre?"
Just joking--I know that's not the real reason--but it does fit, you must admit!

hi ElicBxn I spend mine so fast at times I have no idea
where it came from but know it passes hands all over the
place. the oddest thing that ever happened to me was when
my hubby and I went to this shop to get car parts for our
International Harvester pick up. we were sad when the cost
of what was needed was one hundred fifty more than we had
between the two of us. So my hubby and I came out and I started to get in to the passenger side and stumbled on something. I
bent down and here were two one hundred dollar bills and two
twenties and a ten. just laying there under a wadded up blank
p iece of paper. we asked inside if anyone had been in to ask about some missing money. No no one had So we had one hundred
fifty for the parts and an extra fifty for most of the labor of
putting the parts in the pickup. The power of God works in very mysterious ways.

Indeed he was that day - wow. Its like the time we were out of food, out of money, out of CAT food and still had 2 weeks to go (well, we had some staples in the pantry and 1 pack of chicken thighs) and I won $100 in a contest - and I wasn't the first name (number actually) called, but the 4th! but the first 3 hadn't claimed it in the hour allotted...

Just by the way, Elic, do you remember that bill I which colored with pens, pencils, & glitter ink? I often wonder where that's gotten to! Then there was that check with which I paid rent on which I did the same thing--& the manager was loathe to cash it because it was too pretty?
These things cross my idle mind on idle days such as this one.

Yeah, finding a dime in a puddle below the sole tree atop Enchanted Rock was an odd place to find money, but then, maybe not as odd as finding that $50 in a dirty envelope lying in the street (whatever possessed me to pick up this ugly, tire-track covered thing & look into it?? Guardian angel? No, not mine--the one guarding boy whose money it was. It was his paper route cash, along with a bank deposit slip! And yes, before anyone asks, of course I gave it to the bank!).
It might be easier to explain why I kept finding pound coins in London. They were heavy, & unlike folding money, were harder to keep in a wallet, easy to fumble, so most of the ones I found were near money-changing machines. It seemed a popular topic of complaint at the time among Brits.
But the really mind-bending one was the scads of dollar bills I found one day off River Drive in South Austin, just lying in a field of grass, through which I'd arbitrarily decided to take a short cut that day on my way home! (This was long before we met) There were others, too....
I'm going to give up & ask, as this "Where's George" game is starting to get to me. What is this game, & how does it work?
As to your query re wondering how money changes hands, here's a tangental thought to ponder: Is money even really money unless it's being used? Or is it only potential money...being mere scraps of paper until it moves? Rather the same as considering a still object as potential energy, while it's still just mass, until it's moved, isn't it!
I know, I know, it's Christmas; knock off the danged quantum theories, awreddy! LOL!
Merry Christmas, y'all! 2 people like this

Typo...(duh): RiverSIDE Drive. Not River Drive. I knew that sounded wrong...
Sorry 'bout that. I think my brain's gone numb from the cold. It's not actually all that cold, but the low moaning, wuthering wind outside my window just sends shivers up my spine! (Maybe it's one of Scrooge's "spirits?"

It would be interesting to see how far money travels. I have never heard of this before.

is George another expression for American money? I just learned Benjamins was an expression a few days ago. We don't call our money like that here in canada. I don't really find much money around anymore. Money is just so tight.

I've used Where's George for many years. My wife gets a lot of stamped bills at her work and saves them for me to enter here. I've had some show up in the Phillipines and China actually. I love that site.

Maybe that's why people write on bills. I've found some with things written on them. I also will gladly pick up any money coin or bill which may be on the ground. It's a good thing I am not a germaphobe cause I'd never handle money.

i found 3 dimes the other day on the street..most in awhile..
one bill i had from that site said it stayed in my area 658 days.
it must have been in somebody's piggy bank or something.

Cool. I did that thing where i tracked a $1.00 bill, it was fun to see it go all over the place. Now our family travels all over the place too, I may have spent my own money in a different state, who knows.

Hi Elic,
Talk about strange things, well I have just received a Christmas put into my letter box from one of my neighbours and guess what? I found a £20s, in it think its around( $45s)I was very surprised as this neighbour lives across to my and I only speak to her when she does, sometimes she ignores me so I am dumbfounded, she is on her own as her sones are all living awafrom from home, she has been divorced for many years so she really hasen't got much, it must be the magic of Christmas.

How every sweet, maybe she decided you needed the money more than she did...
I know my brother and his girlfriend decided I needed smaller clothes since the ones I was wearing at Thanksgiving were hanging on me, but my normal clothes don't hang - yet, just those pants are really stretchy and have always been a bit big for me...

I fine change on the ground just about every place I go and I pick it up. Lots of people think it is a waste of time but it money and if you fine a lot it will mount up after a while. I have not see a bill that said where's George but I can only imagine how money goes from one state to another. We buy gas at a gas station someone from out of state comes into the gas station buy gas and the cashier gives them the money I just gave her as change then these people go back home. It is endless.

How does "Where's George" work? I have never found anything but coins on the ground. When I was younger the mother of a friend found a bag in a parking lot and looked in it expecting to find money, and she found a used sanitary napkin instead. I always think of that when I see anything on the ground. It makes you half afraid to look in a bag.

HI,
well, I used to see every $1 bill has a sign said, (where george.com) on it but I never have time to keep them to post online, I will spend them the next hour.
However, I used to check out the website and it was really nice, cool...
