Well, here's my review of the movie, Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. This has to be the worst out of all the movies. There was hardly any action-it was all mostly dialogue, except for the end of the movie, where Dumbledore is killed. Another thing that irritated me was how dark this movie was. I hate that. My eyes aren't that great to begin with, so how about some lighting, Director? I know this is a dark fantasy, but, cheese! Lighten up on the lighting! I am very glad I didn't pay a ticket price to see this movie, and just rented it. Of course there was the obligatory battle in the restroom-J.K. seems to be fascinated with public restrooms. She uses them a lot in her books, lol. I hope the last movie is going to do the flashbacks to Snape's childhood, to explain why he feels the way he does about Harry. I hope the last movie is much better than this one.

Ha, I don't like it when movies have mostly dark scenes, too, because it's just ANNOYING to try to figure out what's going on! I feel like, well, I'm here at the movies..Paying $10 (plus popcorn money - throw in another $6-$7) to see this movie, so I might as well be able to SEE it and therefore KNOW what's going on! lol.

Have you ever READ the 6th Harry Potter book? In my opinion, it was one of the worst. It was, as you said, very very boring and mostly dialogue. I felt like Harry spent more time being depressed and mourning the loss of his godfather than anything else. So I can't imagine that the movie would be MORE interesting than the book. And also, have you read the 7th book? I just finished reading it and YES it really does explain a lot more about Snape's childhood and reasons behind.. everything he does. So I would imagine that the movie would also do the same.

I've read all the books, and I thought this movie was great (but not awesome). I understand that when they make the movies they can't go EXACTLY how the book goes, and enjoy them for what they are.
And about the lighting- I thought it was fine. A lot of new movies have scenes that are extremely dark; I think they're going for realism. How would you feel if you were in the character's shoes?
The camera angles and the visual effects in this movie wer AMAZING- especially the fire in the cave at the end and when all the broken objects in the room came together again.

Given the pace of the book, I actually was very pleased with the movie. The book was definitely my least favorite of the series because there was so little action. It took me almost as long to read HBP as it did to read the first five combined. So I was very pleased with the lack of flashbacks, although there are a few of them that were left out that are going to leave holes for the last two movies to fall into... like the story of the Marvolos and what Tom did to them before he even became Voldemort. And they added a couple of things that are going to present problems in the last two movies like the Death Eaters destroying the Burrow. But overall I was happy with it and can't wait for next Thanksgiving (can't believe I have to wait for Thanksgiving!!!!! angry)

They actually explained Snape's feelings toward Harry in the Order of the Phoenix movie during the occulmency lessons.

As far as the restroom is concerned.... it's an easy meeting place for dormitory style living. I know from my own experience people who lived in different halls would always congregate in the lobby restroom... not that they did it intentionally, it just kind of happened that way.

Hmm, have you even read the books?
Personally, I think it was one of the bets films. Of course, as alway they left A LOT out. Personally, this film should have been split in two aswell, but they couldn't do that.
In the cinema, the film was 'lighted' brilliantly and my version of the film isn't dark, perhaps you need to up the brightness on your tv?

And of course bathrooms are massive in the Harry Potter books, id you go to school? Girls bathrooms in particular is where all the gossip happened. Its where the teachers never dare to go; and in the end of the day, harry potter is about being young. Surving school, as much as it is about surviving the dark lord. ;]

If you don't enjoy the movie, then better to read the book. The saga is much more exciting than the movie itself. The HP sequels are getting lesser and lesser audience with each episode, but maybe the last two movies (they have split the last book in to two movies) would break the curse.

chubit (60)  3 years ago

that's also not true, this film broke recod on how many people went to see it in the first viewing.
the films will never live up to the books, but I'm glad they're still going.
I spent most of my childhood waiting for the books to come out, now all I have is waiting for the films!

There wasn't much action in the book either, so I don't think they got anything wrong when they made the movie pretty boring. I really think that the material suffers a lot in the transition. I think it would be much better if they had decided to do a full TV series or mini-series out of the books, because then none of the vital things would have to get cut, but of course television doesn't make nearly as much money as movies do.
The darkness didn't bother me, and I do believe it was created intentionally in post-production and not the fault of the lighting guys.
The seventh book will be two movies, just in case you hadn't heard. So there are two more movies, and not just one last movie.

I'm quite a big fan of Harry Potter but I have to agree with you on this one. The Half Blood Prince is a real disappointment for me, really. It could have been so much better and more action-pack and interactive, but instead, it is dark, eerie and boring. Oh yeah, for a light humor, you are right; I do notice those restroom scenes; have been repeating for a few times now in Harry Potter movies, LOL. I hope the next one will be super interesting, as interesting as the movie Avatar. Now that is one hell of a good movie..thumbup..

I didn't like any of the Harry Potter movies, even though I really like the book. I kept watching them, because I was curious about how will they make them, unfortunatelly, the last movie change this opinion of mine. It was so bad, that I couldn't even watch it to the end. It really took over my curiousity and now i think that I am not going to watch the last movie, when it comes out.
Half-blooded prince was dark, dull, boring and actionless. The book itself is also dark, but HELLO, human eyes here, director, not alien ones

I have just seen the first three movies of the Harry Potter series and I found them all reasonably good.I have read all the books and found them all exciting even more than the movies. The movies just captured the imagination and presented them on the celluloid as best as they possibly could. It was fascinating to see Danielle Radcliffe fly on the broom nevertheless.I am planning to watch the last sequel when it comes too.I hope it would do justice to the wonderful characters and storyline....:)

I think that the movies of harry potter are a bit boring than the novels. The Half Blood Prince also is boring, because they go on with the scene for quite sometime, my thought is that they are trying to make the movie last very long as its the final one. Hehe.
