View from Virginia City, NV  

hi dawnald isnt Virgina city also used in that old series on television Bonanza, the old duffers here still watch that hour after hour. ugh. any way Virginia city had a lot of history. it was years ago when we were there and it was cold then too as i remember it. Oh bit of honey, I have looked for that for ages and never find it. i love the stuff.Oh that is such gorgeous country there but I always think of the Donner party.one of the things I remember so vividly when we were there was the two and three locomotive trains that go up over Donner pass so I guess they really needed the extra power too. yes 6200 is really high. I was born and raised on the South Dakota plains and the elevation there on the prairie was 4600 and the black hills were much higher. Up at Mt Rushmore and place like that its much higher and colder in the winter too. not that its all that warm in the winter on the plains either. glad to be here in Ca.

How very beautiful! It sounds like a place I would love to visit. :))

Very nice photo. Looks like an interesting place to visit. But maybe in the summer time, not in the dead of winter. Maybe it'll be a little bit greener.
Although I wouldn't mind a pint of buttered rum, right about now. I also noted the candy shop name, as it is going to be a place to go, specially with kids.

I was in Virginia City so long ago it was just starting to become a full fledged tourist stop. It was the middle of Summer and very hot. I would suggest a Spring or Autumn trip if you want to go again. Blessings

Ah, Good ol' Virginia City! I think savvypat and I were there at the same time! lol Let's see, around 1971, in the summer. Gosh it was hot! And I don't even think it has any green any time of year. The only green I saw was the color of the paint on one of the old mine buildings. It wasn't much of a tourist area at the time, but they were trying. They did let us ride in one of the old mine cars through part of one of the mines there. Mostly we did a lot of walking around and trying to find shade... We went to Carson City too--which I actually liked better, but couldn't really tell you why. :-)
I love Bit O' Honey too! Luckily, we can still get penny candy in one of the stores here, so every now and then I stock up on it and maryjanes and root beer barrels. Much tastier than eating family members when you're hungry! lol I wonder if we wrote to the company to let them know how many people love it still, if they would distribute it more widely? Might be worth a shot.

Uhhmmm...you won't believe this but my husband LOVES that Bit O Honey! I hate it. LOL! It IS quite hard to find anymore.

Sounds like a cool place to visit...though I think you are right about returning at a warmer time. I am learning, now that I am residing in AZ that much of this area where I live is old coal mining towns. There is a town nearby called Jerome, also high in the mountains that is steeped in mining history. I have been driver through it and it too is quaint with interesting shops. Actually it resembles a hippie town. I plan to take a few days this spring and really check it out. Thought is would make for a good article.
