For those of you who love history and Egypt like I do, I'm sure you've heard many a speculation.
Well, I just finished reading a really good article from the Smithsonian online about the Sphinx.
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/Uncovering-Secrets-of-the-Sphinx.html?c=y&page=1
I knew quite a bit about this, I really do like this stuff, but this is well written and should be understandable for those of you are "history impaired" like some people I've met.
What can I say - I'm "language impaired" so so don't feel bad...

hmm..i'm in favor of khufu.
if he was really the spendthrift he was supposed to be,it would have made sense.
plus he probably didn't leave much for khafre LOL
the sphinx kind of resembles a statuette they have of him (well, what's left of the face).
that erosion troubles me tho.it seems awful advanced to be of khufu/khafre's time.

i had heard that-it does sound reasonable..it would explain the tiny head in comparison.

I was watching a PBS special the other week w the kids and from what I recall they think it may be the face of a king, the son of a previous king buried in a nearby pyramid.

That's awesome. I think History is a beautiful subject for sure. Wealth of knowledge there, all the time. I'd love to take up a foreign language too, if only. Right now, I only know some basic Mandarin. I'd love to learn Spanish, French and maybe some Gaelic too, lol.

I just read the article and it was really interesting! I didn't realize the sphinx wasn't made piece by piece. I assumed it was like the pyramids. It is amaing that ancient cultures could manage such incredible feats. Imagine what they could have done with the technology we have today!

The people in ancient cultures were amazing! Today I think a lot of people would just give up if it got to hard. We are used to everything being easy and if it's not we just say "it's impossible".

Thanks for the link. Interesting reading. Keep 'em coming.
But one thing I've always wondered...
Where the heck did all that sand come from, anyway?

have you looked at the Sahara lately?
Sand has a very interesting "creation" its actually all about destruction - very cool stuff.
Lordy, I'd need a whole bunch of discussions to explain why and where sand comes from!
Lets just say - deserts are famous for being hot, but did you know with the low humidity, it also get REALLY cold at night?
the rapid changes in temp leads to rocks breaking up, flaking off and returning to their most elemental form
and, the Sahara is mostly built on a bed of sandstone... http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/places/photos/photo_chad_chad.html

I, too, am entranced by the history of ancient Egypt and thank you for sharing this wonderful article with us.
I also have read much about Edgar Cayce and find his own story of his life as the "sleeping pshychic" to be amazing. I wish that I had such a gift.

I saw an excellent video that stated and tried to show facts to back up the idea that the Sphinx was built by an ancient tribe and that the face on the Sphinx is actually the face of an African American woman who may have been a queen.
The video had a well-known artist who draws sketches of criminals go to Egypt to study the sphinx and he stated based on his own experience of drawing people that the Sphinx was an African American woman's head.
I will check out he site you read about.
