My Drive to Work this Morning -- HORRIBLE!! |
| |
| We received nearly 30 inches of snow over the weekend here in Martinsburg, West Virginia... Due to the weather and horrible road conditions, our office opened at 10:00 am rather than 7:30 am, however the roads are still incredibly difficult to drive on and very dangerous. I saw quite a number of people getting stuck all over the place and was scared to death I was going to get stuck! I made it to work okay, but now I am worried once I leave here for the ride home. The only time I got into a bad accident, which totaled my vehicle, was on black ice a few years back and was the only accident I've ever been in. I am scared to drive in this weather, but I may lose my job if I don't go, so I just leave considerably earlier and take my time and use common sense... Do you have to drive out in lots of snow and bad road conditions? I can't wait for spring!!! *sigh* | | | | | |

| | Yes, it's quite dangerous to drive in the snow. But I found it even more horrible to drive on ice! For one time I was driving on ice roads and I really couldn't control my car at all. It's just like letting the car take me to whichever direction it wants to go. Be extra careful and good luck on your drive back home. | | | | | | |

| | I'm feeling your pain, Bethany. I am in the northern VA/DC area and people do not know how to drive in snow or ice here. I am more afraid of other drivers than I am of the snow and ice. They drive too fast, too close, brake too often and suddenly, and even too slow to maintain traction. AAAUGH! Today, even the federal government is closed. Military bases are on code red (liberal leave, only essential and emergency personnel report). And more snow tomorrow. I am with you -- c'mon spring! | | | | | | |

| | Yes. I almost got stuck because someone with a 4-wheel drive vehicle was driving too slowly up a hill and almost got stuck, so I had to stop and my car got stuck. Luckily I was able to maneuver around a little and drive off, but that was a close call! | | | |

| | I don't drive through bad weather much at all but my husband does all the time when on storm duty. This storm was the worst though. He was driving through WV DURING the bad storm. They could hardly see the road but couldn't stop and be stuck, so just pushed along until they got to the hotel the company had for them. I hope you have a good ride home this evening. | | | | | | |

| | And more is on your way as the storm I have here in Minnesota will be in your area Tuesday. I personally love the snow. We got 2 feet or so on Christmas day. Today we are geting a bit of snow. Only 5 inches but still great for snow lovers like myself. I don't mind driving etc in the snow as I am used to it and it's no big deal. We'd have to get 4 feet or more of snow to close down the city. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~ | | | | | | |

| | Thanks... Well they let us come in late and are closing one hour early, so we will be able to leave at 5:15 rather than 6:15 tonight... I guess that's better than nothing. : / | | | |

| | I live in WV too but in my area we didn't get nearly as much snow. I'm glad because I'm sort of tied to the university here they closed work for today so things can kind of melt and the roads can work on getting cleared up. I've had to drive to work in pretty nasty conditions several times though that's why I'm glad I live so close to work. I'll end up moving soon though and I don't want too because I know it'll just be a complete mess in the winter time! | | | | | | |

| | hi! 30 inches of snow- are you sure? It is a lot of snow then and I think I have never saw so much in my country. well, I guess the road conditions were really very bad and how did you actually went to work when there is so much snow on the road. Is the temperature also low, because it will make the conditions more horrible to you! | | | | | | |

| | Yes, some places received over 30 inches. I am positive -- I shoveled so much and the snow was nearly up to our hips! I don't have pictures now because I am at work, but I may post some later if you'd like to see, once I get home. I left about 45 minutes early and a drive that usually takes only 20-25 minutes ended up taking nearly an hour. The plows did come through, but it was just so much snow that it's impossible to remove it all and do such a great job. : / And yes we are supposed to get another foot or so tomorrow night! NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! : ( | | | |

| | yes, i used to live in germany a few years ago. went away and came back to germany. its horrible for me to drive in this weather, since i was born and raised in Florida. not much snow there. the best thing to do that i learned is to relax and if something happens make sure you dont panick. be safe out there and just keep a level head while driving and it will all work out. | | | | | | |

| | I love the snow but I'd rather not drive in it if possible. Unfortunately I work out of town and I have to drive in it a lot. I just leave early and take my time. I work 2nd shift so the ride home is never as bad because there is less traffic. The snow is not so bad at all...ice is what scares me. I saw you guys on the news and I have to say I was jealous....30 inches!!?! That is a storm I'd love if I did not have to drive to work in it. | | | | | | |
