| | Hello, If you are accustomed to Windows XP, keep it : there is more available softwares and drivers ; updates are easy. In an other side, I see in your profile that you are doing a lot of PTC sites : with Linux you will have not to care anymore for spywares and viruses. Then, you can be interested by a dual boot OS, Windows/Linux. Ubuntu is user friendly for a desktop Windows user. You can download an image of a Live CD here to try it : http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download For a laptop or a netbook, you may have a look at Hacao Linux 2009 CE, a small and very fast English and Vietnamese distro based on Puppy Linux and released for some commercial (but it's a free Linux) netbooks : it works in RAM and can be installed on a bootable USB key or SD card (no need to install it on your Windows HDD). You can download an image of a live CD here : http://puppylinuxstuff.me... Happy Linux-trying ! | | | | | | |

| | yeah im reviewing many ptc sites as you said and i often come across viruses when im viewing ads.. since im using avast antivirus im being warned if it finds a suspicious thing.. i think i can totally avoid this problem if we have a linux OS right? | | | |

| | you can quite avoid the problem in linux. you need only a firewall, provided. avast is a very good antivirus but none is perfect. if you try Hacao, it comes with xf-prot (free for home users under linux, commercial for windows users) : scan your windows disks. i thought i was safe and found 2 trojans in my hdds with xf-prot : a good motive to try linux :) | | | |

| | This is always going to be a personal preference, and you cannot decide unless you actually try Linux in order to compare the two. Simply dumping Windows would not be a wise option, so I suggest that you either run a dual boot between them or even try using Linux via a Live CD. Most Linux distributions now come on Live CDs, so you can boot into the operating system and try it, then simply reboot and remove the CD without ever installing anything to the hard drive. | | | | | | |

| | I was confused when I was using Linux, but I it takes time understand any technology. I would say stick with windows xp, or even better if you have option upgrade your operating system to windows 7. It is really good, I have been using it for the past 4 months. And I am pleased with the new features. | | | | | | |

| | For me Windows XP is undoubtedly better due to it's user-friendly interface. I'm not sure about Linux though. I think there will be a lot of software/application incompatibility issues with it. | | | | | | |

| | I have been using LInux before. Linux as my boss said is much safer than windows xp, but I am having difficulty on sending emails since some of the receiver are using Windows XP and I am the only one Using Linux. We even bought a book so that we can study Linux, but there are terms I don't understand. They said Linux is user friendly, but I find the difficulty of understanding its system. Good thing, we cam back using Windows XP now. | | | | | | |
