Do you have rituals or habits that you rely upon?

When I was at work ,there was a table tennis tournament in progress. My colleagues would play in the lunch break. One player would always kiss the ball before she served because she said it made it go better. It was her lucky ritual although she didn't win the tournament ultimately. I used to go on the bus sometimes with my sister to the library. One time after a long wait my sister in Frustration said 'swiftly swiftly big boom boom ' and the bus came. We laughed but ever after, when waiting we would say the 'lucky words ' and a bus would come (well maybe not always at once). My daughter likes to play snakes and ladders the board game. when she rolls her dice ,she always says 'come on lovely six' and she does seem to get an awful lot of sixes. Do you have a ritual or habit to help with your day? Or are we just all a bit crazy and hopeful?

hi panadaeyes the only thing I can think of that I sometimes do, well every time we play bingo I do it, is visualize a winning sequence on my card, and I will always win at least three times so it may send some lucky vibes out. some have teased me and said she cheats, but you really cannot cheat in bingo, either you win or you do not win..I also visualize the numbers that I need, for example I have all but two in a diagonal row say i 30 and g 42, so I visual those cards as the caller calls out the numbers and like I said I win a lot.

Yes it must be the positive vibes :P That reminds me of the Quantum physics argument, where they say that if you put in your order by sending out our mental request, things are more likely to work towards your goal.

Hi Hatley. You remind me of when I read my "Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. I used to do that sometimes when I went to school or when I needed to get something done. I should have done it more.

yes i have. i used to make a sign of the cross before i go out to work or whenever i go out and it takes time for me to come back. i was doing this since i was a child as my father used to tell us to make a sign of the cross so that our angels or perhaps god will protect us from danger since my father is not always with us all the time.

That's a nice one. I think we all do have some kind of guardian angels. One of the ladies where I worked when I was 16 would go to meetings and talk about her spirit guide which she said was a North American Indian,I thought that was a very odd idea but now I think, maybe it was just another way of thinking about a guardian angel. I'm sure they really wouldn't mind what you thought they looked like.

I follow a ritual when I take my dogs to the show. I wear my "special" shoes. Its an ordinary shoes but its very comfortable for fast walking. I had a positive result when in the first who my pup ended winning reserve best in group. Thus I continued to wear the same clothes for the other shows. But I did not have the same results for all the shows

I guess you hope the shoes are what helped you to win a place. I used to have my special driving shoes that i always wore when taking driving lessons. I wore them on my test when I passed. I think it wasn't really the shoes that helped but their flatness because I drive all the time now but I always like the flattest shoes i can find because I can feel the pedals more with them.

I guess I'm just crazy or hopeful but the only ritual I seem to have is when I leave the house I always look in my little gargoyle mirror by the door. Not to check my hair or make up or anything, but I just have to look in that mirror before I can leave the house and go out.

My neighbour always carries a huge red piece of plastic joined onto her front door key. She used to always have it in her hand but even as she had just shut the door to go out she would wave it just to show she had it.

When I'm playing dice with my friends, I always shake the dice in my left hand and I seem to get more of the number that I'm looking for when I shake them with my left hand than with my right hand. My daughter used to shake her fist at the red traffic lights when we were impatient to get somewhere in the morning and say "Come on you stupid light," and a lot of times the light would change as well.

It makes you feel quite sneaky doesn't it when the 'trick' works. I like how your daughter changes the traffic lights. We used to be always lucky with them in the evening on the way to swimming club. There are about 5 sets between here and there as we had to go through town to get there and we would quite often not have to stop all the way there. Of course they might have had them set so that they didn't come on as much as they do during the day LOL

When I get up in the mornings to write, I put albums on my Crossley player and the first albums I play are "Spooky Two" by Spooky Tooth, then "Maggot Brain" by the Funkadelic. I used to have 45's that I play also but those were lost or stolen years ago. I play mostly sixties music because those were great times for me and because they get and keep me in a writing mood.

Yes music can really put you in the right mood. There is an advert on TV at the moment that uses the Lollipop song ,no idea who it was by but it goes lollipop lollipop ooh lolly lolly lolly...It is so cheery,i cant help but sing along.

I know there's a song called "My Boy Lollypop", but if I'm not mistaken, the song you speak of, reminds me of a song called "Lollipop" by the Chordettes. That was a fifties female singing group who had a hit in 1958. I just watched the commercial for Dell that has the song. The Chordettes can be seen on youtube.

Yes that is the one. It really cheers me up. At work there was a very straight laced man who hardly ever seemed to be happy or smiley and one day that song came on to the radio and he sang along all the way through, he knew every word.

"He loves me, he loves me not" Yes. Removing petals off a flower and if there was that last petal that remained while I said 'He loves me" there were hopes but finally whether it worked or not I do not remember. If the crow crows sitting on my terrace then there is an email for me. If he sits on the gate then I would expect visitors but this one thing about crows has worked for me. If he sat at the gate and crowed then I would put my house in order expecting guests to arrive!!!

That one is interesting. We have crows here and Jays too . They are all related, crows, jays and magpies so there must be something about the area they all agree upon. I like how you watch to see what they do and then react. I didn't ever do the flower petal thing but I remember it being mentioned.

With me it's magpies. I take notice of the rhyme, "One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl and four for a boy. Five for silver, six for gold and seven for a secret never to be told." If I see a single magpie I have to salute it and spit to stop the bad luck - that's surprised some of my car passengers, I can tell you! Alternatively, you can cross your fingers until you see a four-legged animal. As I write this, I realise how barking mad I sound! Another of my superstitions is touching wood. I also have one ritual. Every morning when I leave for work my husband says, "Drive carefully" to me. If he forgets, I remind him because I feel it keeps me safe on the road. Told you. Barking!

I remember that rhyme. You would be very busy spitting and saluting here because there are magpies all around in the back gardens. I can remember 8 for a wish ,9 for a kiss,10 for a time of joyous bliss being the ending but there is another one about diamonds I think.
