No Saturday mail delivery and other drastic options

Personally, I think Saturday mail delivery is necessary and I would complain to my congressmen. I sell on eBay and need everyday possible to get my pacages out and in. But the post office is failing, rapidly... BTW: Have you noticed they are removing the blue postal drop boxes. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/02/AR2010030200912.html?hpid=topnews

Most blue drop boxes were dropped years ago becuse of the anthrax scare.

It took me while to realize they weren't there anymore also. Just one of the many things we took for granted in safer times.

I forgot about the anthrax scare. I didn't really miss the blue boxes until I need to mail a letter the other day. Everyone can't get to the post office easily.

I'm not sure how I feel about this issue. They have been debating dropping Saturday service for quite a while. I used to date a postman at one time. He worked on the trucks though, and they did work around the clock on sorting and transporting. It may just be time to take this action though, instead of just raising postage every couple of years like they seem to have been doing lately. I have heard of people getting laid off, so I guess when you look at it from that perspective, this would be a better alternative and probably save some jobs.

Do you honestly think cutting back services will save jobs. I think just the opposite will occur.

It does not bother me if they stop Saturday delivery. Perhaps this way they will save money and not try and get it by upping the already exorbitant mailing charges.

That's the problem. The prices are increasing and the service is steadily decreasing. Soon we will only be getting mail once a week. Then it will be back to the pony express.

Look at the bright side--if you're going to be away on Saturday, there will be no mail for someone to steal! It would be one less worry for me. The only problem is that sometimes we have to wait for a monthly notice to pay a bill and some places, like the IRS, send them only a couple of days before they are due. (Those particular jerks are just hoping people will be late and will "default" by missing a payment)

I'm trying to look at bright side. So far everything looks dim.
