Sometimes I cannot stand looking at a white background on my screen as it tires my eyes. Now and again I will go into the Add-ons section on Mozilla. On there I can change my theme up at the top of the page, that kind of thing but I use allsorts to try to make my time on the net as eye-strain free as possible. My latest add-on is very cool I think. It is called NoSquint and it enables me to increase the size of the print on sites and to zoom in or out as well. The best feature by far though is being able to change the colour of a webpage I am looking at. Unfortunately, I still have to TYPE within a white box but in the background is a marvellous bluey-green shade that is excellent for my eyes. When I get bored of it I can change it to pink or whatever colour I like, I love it! The bluey-green background is there when I read responses on discussions...it's only when I type I'm in the white...but I can cope with that. Do you use tools to enhance your viewing experience on the internet? It doesn't have to be in Firefox. I'm interested to know as many people on here will spend hours on the net and it would be nice to know if you are all OK with your eyes. Do share.

hi janey I also have Mozilla Firefox but have been leery of using the addons as I guess I just did not know how to go about it. the blue green sounds much easier on your eyes and the no squint would really help me as my eyes do get so tired as I am on here a lot..it is easy then to make these add ons?

Well I'm no computer whizz-kid but I find them very easy to download from the Mozilla Firefox website. It only takes a few seconds but I browse them carefully as I don't want too many of them...as some are similar to one another. Have you tried emailing Mozilla or going on their forums? I'm sure there are troubleshooting guides on the site itself, hope this helps.

I still use IE and haven't added any add-ons to change the screen color. My eyes haven't seemed to bother me reading the white screen, so I haven't done anything to change the white screen. When my neck and upper back start to hurt, that's when I quit. Have a good one.

Oh yes I do know what you mean. I have a desk with a good old-fashioned desktop computer on it but I do have to limit my time on here, otherwise I will have the same problems you mention. It is still a very good screen though, despite its age and I don't think some of the new ones are that brilliant due to the reflective glass on the front of them, something I will have to look out for in case I ever buy a laptop in future...or another desktop!

Janey1966, this is a really great discussion. Back when I asked for suggestions on how to improve the website there were a few members who asked about customizations, including choosing their own background color. Since we opted not to do that with this round of upgrades, this is a fabulous way for members to do it themselves. We also received specific requests regarding font size and although there's the always the control/up-down trick, the add-on you found sounds like a perfect solution. I hope everyone reads this discussion!

Thanks Alice! I'm so pleased you find my discussion helpful...and honoured that you have posted a response. Wow, I never expected that lol. Despite my computer being old Firefox has helped to revitalise it (especially the add-ons) so I'm hoping that a few frustrated people may "see the light" and start using it as opposed to putting up with Explorer, something that I had done for years.

I sometimes use the zoom tool on images. I cant in Linux though as it crashes the browser. There are some quite nice things to enhance the opera browser including turbo which reduces the time of revisiting a page , and the quick launch page with thumbnails of frequently visited pages.
