SB2937, it's about time!

finally, Hawaii is acting to stop the repeated requests from birthers for Pres. Obamas birth certificate. Some are calling this bill a "veil of secrecy", I call it common sense and financially responsible. These requests were doing nothing but costing the taxpayers of Hawaii untold amounts of money, all because they can. What do you think?

Good for them. Veil of secrecy my butt. Obama has the same legal rights as everyone else in this country and the people who have had to waste their time dealing with these requests have the right to be free to do their jobs. Wait, let me respond to rose before she even posts. It doesn't matter how many millions of Americans are demanding to see proof, there is a legal system in this country that everyone but the most hypocritical among us would agree should be followed. Unless a judge orders someone to provide a legal adversary with personal information...it's PRIVATE.

Rose please explain to me the correlation between wanting to know if Pres. Obama is an American citizen and taking an oath to protect the Untied States from all enemies foreign and domestic. Are you implying OUR President may be a foreign enemy? How absurd that reasoning is!

Rose is suggesting that Obama should prove that he's eligible to be Commander In Chief, kl5682. Rose, please show me where this right is written? Is it in the military code, the constitution, federal law? Being in the military does not place anyone above the law, Rose, which is why Taitz keeps losing in court.

Instead, why don't we recommend that they create more jobs by designating an agency just for responding to inquiries about Obama's birth certificate?

one of my grannies wouldn't have let her own family see hers. think this was something to do with her age, none of us knew for a long time what exactly it was. hey, this is IT. forget legal stuff because of the court cases etc the REAL reason obama doesn't hand over his birth certificate to random nutters is because he has knocked 10 years off his REAL age

Wonder if these same people would be willing to share their BC with just anyone who asked? Doubtful

What I find interesting about this discussion is that the 0bama fans are all basically saying the same thing "Why should he have to show such a private piece of information"...Hello??? The question should be "Why shouldn't he have to show this information?" Instead he ignores it, adding more fuel to the fire. I have had to show my birth certificate to get a State ID, to get married, to apply for any kind of public benefits, to get a Social Card, the list goes on. Why should I, and every other person in the country, have to show ours but 0bama doesn't and he holds the highest office, is Commander in Chief of our military and makes decisions everyday for the ppl of this country. I for one would like to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has the right to hold that office. As for his showing it to everyone, no one is asking him to pass it around to every person in the country...all he'd have to do is answer one lawsuit, show the birth certificate to the Judge and let him authenticate it...that's one person to see his "very private information"...instead he has his teams of lawyers blocking the request at every turn. All it does is make him look more and more devious and ineligble. As for the Hawaii Health Directer and state registrar, maybe they ought to start charging 0bama everytime they have to answer a request, maybe he'd get off his butt and put an end to it. I'm sure there will be those here that don't agree with me but that's the great thing about having your own opinion...no one has to agree with it. While I believe Obama was born in Hawaii, what ever happened to the Freedom of Information Act? Replying to FOIA requests is a pain in the butt and it takes time, money and resources (I know, been there, done that), BUT suck it up Hawaii and answer the mail. Obama could set this straight if he wanted to. Why he's chose not to, who knows!

Hoff, should everyone be able to get a copy of everyone else's birth certificate? Birth certificates are not subject to the FOIA, they are private and only the person listed or a parent has the legal right to request a copy. I do agree that Obama could set this straight if he wanted to but there's the problem of the various lawsuits in the pipeline. Once the first one was filed it became a legal issue and no one is under any obligation to give any information to an adversary unless compelled by the court to do so. So far every judge who has heard every case has ruled against the plaintiffs.

You're not offending anyone, overwith. I agree that there should have been something in place that would have allowed us to avoid this entire issue and I believe there is now. This is the first time we've elected a president with the family history that Obama has. The problem is the lawsuits, which carry no weight whatsoever, and which forced Obama into the position of having to respond, requiring legal counsel. The first thing any good attorney is going to do is to deny the attorney(s) suing someone the things they're demanding. It's standard legal procedure. Something that you need to think about...instead of asking why Obama hasn't just caved and given those lawyers what they want...is why hasn't congress taken any action in this area? Any member can call for an investigation and, with the parties so split, you have to wonder why not one Republican legislator has stepped up to the plate? If there was a possibility that Obama could have been run out on a rail I strongly believe that action would have been taken long before now. Since the members of the Senate and the House aren't challenging his eligibility, why should we believe the rantings of a couple of lawyers who have had case after case thrown out of court after court by many different judges? Everybody likes a good kornspiracy theory but this is getting ridiculous. To make matters worse, Orly Taitz has a habit of going into court "representing" a member of our military. When she loses her case this man or woman then has to return to his/her unit and face the consequences of challenging military orders...and Taitz is nowhere to be found. I don't like that she's messing with our military like that.

Why not just prove that he is actually an American citizan? It would end all discussion on this subject and save money. If he were not our President then no one would even question this. I believe he should have to show proof but also think that should have been done before he was even allowed to run as President. I and all Americans have to show proof that we are American citizens everytime we go to the DMV. Geez after 911 we almost have to be stripped and searched to go into any state building. If he has nothing to hide then why is he hidding it. I just think it should have been done long before this. Hope this don't offend anyone just giving my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

If they had charged for access to those records, then they might have actually made money on the deal. LOL
