Keeping Dead Discussions Alive!

Am I the only one who goes "Oh my GOSH! There are tons of discussions unanswered!". MyLot population is well over 200+K and I've been around since it was 92K, just not active. But I still come back, it feels nice to chat around once in a while. Nice posts, nice topics put up by even better people. Just a perfect community. All credit goes to the myLot administrator. There are a lot of discussions that get deleted because they don't comply with myLot's discussion guidelines. So that actually filters out many of them. But what about those which have been unanswered since their creation. Do you try to revive your discussions that do not have any responses? Or do you just let them R.I.P.? If you happen to see a discussion posted 1 year ago, with absolutely no responses, would you still respond to it?

I am an equal opportunity responder. No matter how old it is If I feel I can add something of substance, I am going to respond. I have a dream of actualy there being no need for a no response section, I'd love to be able to get rid of a lot of the discussions there but first I need to go through and do a lot of cleanup for myself here on mylot!

Good expression, equal opportunity responder. It would be nice if we could get some of them to have a response or two. Perhaps I should make it a goal, and see if others wanted to as well. Good luck, maybe we both can help.

I am still working on that cleanup, but I am trying to do some of the "no responses" as well. Maybe in due time I can get to that, but I get so many new discussions in my email every day I don't know what to do with them.

@GardenGerty Hah. I like that expression too. An equal opportunity responder. Even has a nice ring to it. I might steal that. lol

I'm trying to get my response number up so I can get a star next to my name. If the topic of interest was still pertinent to my understanding and liking I would still respond. I actually saw someone respond to a discussion after four years and the original poster was surprised and very happy.

All the best for getting the 10 "Blue" Star. I'm stuck on 9 for ages now! But I'm happy. Yes, I guess if the discussion is still of interest then there isnt any harm in responding no matter how old it may be. I agree with you. Thanks for your response.

Good luck to you as well. Hopefully we get there one day. Hehe. I have noticed that posting a lot of good discussions increases your score. Blue is my favorite color so I do not want to stop until I reach it that star. =) Let's give life back to the discussions that never had a chance and those that have been forgotten.

So what have you been doing while you have been gone? I will respond to anything that strikes my fancy. I think some of those with no responses really should be deleted, if they are against guidelines, but I am not sure admin will see that until after they gain a response.

I hope myLot never starts arbitrarily going back and deleting old posts. But yes, perhaps ones that never had a single response that were very old? Not sure if it takes up that much space on the server, but I am sure it takes up something. Purging a bit could be helpful.

If it is worth answering then why not? right? Some discussions don't get answered because they were never appealing in the first place. Sometimes though I would do it inorder to help out a friend.

I have responded to those kind before, but not lately. Frankly, I think the ones that don't get responses, just aren't interesting enough to post a response to. If the discussions aren't interesting enough to me, then I will just leave them, regardless if they have responses or they don't. I have also seen some with responses, but no comments as they have been let go, and that ia a big waste of time to do that. I have had a hard time coming up with good topics myself, however, none of my discussions have 0 responses, so I am glad of that, but they really didn't get as many as I thought I would either. It just depends on the content of the discussion. I have responded to some that are over 2 years old, but not lately. I prefer the newer discussions to those. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I only post if I'm interested in the topic, I don't even look at the date it has been posted. If there are many topics all about the same thing I generally post in the more active of the topics... I also check the other topic to see if there are any interesting comments I may like to respond to. :)

Exactly, active and recent discussions generally get a lot of responses. And during the course of such active discussions being responded to many other discussions on the same topic, might be better, might not, get left out. :( Poor fellows.

Sure, I still respond to those kinds of questions. Some of the older questions just got lost in the shuffle and pushed to the back before anybody got to really see them. Every day I go to the section 'no responses' and try and go back a few pages and start from there. Quite often some of the questions are very good, and I figure if I respond to one of them it'll push it back to the top of the heap where others can see it and respond too. On my own discussions, I don't try and revive them, but if somebody leaves a good comment then I'll respond back and give it the plus rating.

Hi zeetherg, Fortunately I don’t have any zero response topics yet and thank to my friends. Secondly if I see any of the topics with zero response I will have a look on that topic and if I know the answer I will give my reply. But sometimes I failed to give my reply as the topic is unfamiliar to me. I really feel bad to see the no-responses topics. Presently I am busy with the current topics by my friends and I could not see any older topics with no-response. In case I go through any I will respond (if I know about the topic).

I can't think of any discussions I have ever had either that didn't have at least one person respond. And even that's rare.

i could say i am a bit luckier than the others that because i have lots of good friends here, i never left with a discussion unresponded. there could be some with less responses and there is one or maybe two left unresponded due to system errors that occurred at that time... with the others discussion left unresponded for years, i would bother myself digging up them. i guess, it's best to attend to new and up to date discussions.

Hello there! Well, it depends. First of all, there are some reasons why a discussion remain unanswered or has no responses. The question could be hard to answer, few or no users are familiar with the topic, or it doesn't get the attention of the users. Until they got buried by the newer discussions. I dig old topics before, maybe I will do that again next time, my connection was not stable so I had been inactive for a long time. On the other hand, there are also discussions that violated the rules and got lots of responses, such as topics without substance, it can be answered easily so it gets more responses but after that, it will be deleted. Another thing was on duplicate topics, some are trying to revive a topic by posting another one to try if they can beat the original discussion but still, the first one to be posted will remain. Some of the unanswered discussions are those that are intended to promote their own referral links, some users avoid responding on it. Just try to help those discussions with no responses. Have a nice day!

Hi zeethegr, I do check "no response" tab once a while. True that there are a lot of discussions that might be interesting if we can keep it alive but most of it too technical and I do not know how to give my response. But there are a lot more unworthy discussions to reply. The same old discussions. I will response to any discussion that get my interest. It does not matter if the discussion is new one or have been posted a few years. As long as that discussion is still applicable to today situation then it is worth to response.

I wouldn't mind responding to an old discusson if the topic is still relevant. Actually, I did that a couple of weeks ago, and I had a friend out of it. We had the same sort of specialized interest, and he raised a topic almost a year ago. I guess he got the notification when I responded to it. Now, there'e two of us in this interest. The new search tab also helps brings out old discussions. Helps sort out no-response topics.
