I believe what you're talking about is called V.N.C., otherwise known as Virtual Network Computing.

VNC is a Windows NETWORK protocol, which allows the user to connect via the Internet and remotely control another PC from anywhere else. Think of it as a window into YOUR home computer's desktop from another computer. Key presses and mouse clicks get transferred over the Internet and then happen at the same time on another computer somewhere else. Anyone using this remote computer protocol, can then watch the action as it happens on the other person's computer.

Running a server and opening a port on your home computer to the Internet, can be risky in this regard if you don't have the proper security patches in place that check for spy-ware or/or viruses. Of course, the best way to PREVENT such attacks, is to attach a router to your home's PC. Routers are specifically designed to TRANSMIT data FROM your computer, but CLOSES ports TO data coming INTO your computer, unless YOU chose to open those ports, and allow the data to enter.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. It's complicated to me. My computer is in the local area network of my company. The friend is one of my colleagues who is in Germany. He can remote contol my computer in the LAN. Because I was using the ERP, he taught me how to use it. But he said he could only contol the operation interface of ERP. But I heard the IT can restart our computer according to the remote contol. I don't know whether it is real or not.
