If you have a hospital or doctors appointment, do you prefer to go alone.. |
| |
| ... or would you rather be accompanied by a friend or family member? My husband prefers me to go with him to appointments. I, on the other hand would far sooner just go by myself. If I go by myself, I feel more confident, strong in control and able to concentrate and deal with whatevers happening. If I am accompanied, I feel like an "ill person". How about you - do you find it a comfort or support to have someone else there? | | | | | |

| | Either way is fine with me. Having someone with you though can sometimes take your mind off the waiting since the talk to you..or if you have to get a shot or something no worries about who's driving home.. | | | | | | |

| | I heard some advice once that it is good to take an interested party along, to listen for things you might miss. Hubby often goes with me, but for a regular checkup, he would not go. I always want to go with my husband, and I did with my first husband as well. First of all, in the listening role, and then secondly, to remember to ask the doctor stuff or tell him stuff that he might forget. Personally, I always have a list I go over with the doctor when it comes to my own health. | | | | | | |

| | I used to want to be accompanied, but now I prefer to go alone. I hate having someone wait for me. I found a doctor who is easy to talk to and I can ask him to explain whatever it is I don't understand. A trip to my doctor is something I am comfortable doing alone. | | | | | | |

| | I know what you mean. You always feel that you have to apologise if there's a delay and maybe you dont ask all the questions if you're conscious of someone waiting for you. Its good that you've found a doctor with whom you can feel comfortable. | | | |

| | Guys are big sissies when it comes to feeling bad. Lets think about it. You get pneumonia , you still are expected to get up, feed the kids, fix dinner and clean the house. And if you work, then men often are surprised you don't feel like going in anyway. A guy gets a tiny little head cold and they lay in bed like they are DYING! They want you to wipe their foreheads, feed them in bed and pamper them like babies. so, of course they want a woman to hold their hand when they go to the big bad D-O-C-T-O-R. You would think they are getting a prostate exam when the doc wants to look down their throat! So you can IMAGINE what they must be like when they actually GET a prostate exam! | | | | | | |

| | Its not just for comfort but same time insurance. As we know if we go to a doctor its important that we know the details. Even what the symptoms etc. So if you go to a doctor with your husband. Even your husband can say what are the other symptoms that you feel that you forgot to mention to a doctor. Also some doctors explanation. Some you pick will and others not. So its better you have a companion so that it takes two of you to understand what doctors have told you. Same time if you forgot you can ask him if he remember this or that. | | | | | | |

| | My husbands hearing and memory are not good - he would probably not know my symptoms because I dont tell him. I am more likely to forget or not be able to concentrate on the doctor if he is there. I take a list of questions and make notes on it if its a big thing. | | | |

| | I really think that it depends why your going in. If it is for something small then perhaps it may not even matter. But for a big unknown which can be scary sometimes and that requires a few test. Well that may be either hard to deal with alone or embarrassing to some degree depending on your comfort level. So yeah it really depends on your personality and what you prefer really. Every situation may be different in that respect. | | | | | | |

| | I take him with me if I think I may not be able to drive home... if I've had any sort of anaesthetic etc. I dont find it comforting to have someone with me because I'm more concerned about how they will react to the situation so it just adds any stress. | | | |
