The garden magician visited my house this afternoon.....

I had to go to a hospital appointment so left the house around 3pm. When I returned a couple of hours later a transformation had taken place along one side of my house.... all the leaves were gone, the weeds were gone, all the pots were neatly arranged and all the empty pots/buckets/garden bags were nowhere to be seen. I enjoy gardening and this was a job I have had on my "to do" list for a long time but, for a variety of reasons, I hadn't been able to make much headway and it was upsetting me to see it in a mess. Now its all done, thanks to my son who came home last weekend. We are working on other areas of the garden together... and its so much easier having someone else around who cares Has anyone come in and worked on your garden when you weren't able to manage it yourself, knowing how much it would mean to you to have it sorted?

What a wonderful son! I have not had a visit from the garden fairies but it sure sounds nice! Hope your health is going well....

Yes, it made such a difference to see it clear - and, yes, thank you, at the moment things are going well health-wise

Hey, sons are great, aren't they. Mine helped me improve and extend the small bricked in garden I had last year. He makes heavy work look like child's play. When he gets moving nothing stands in the way of a job. I jus wish he could find a paying job.

Yes, they are! Its something thats really been bugging me for a while. I'm hopeful (and quietly confident) that, between us, we can restore the garden back to its former glory

I used to really love to work in the yard, but between back pain and whatnot, I have gotten totally away from it.

My parents left their big garden when my dad was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease because he couldn't bear the thought of not being able to maintain it as the condition worsened. However, he was fortunate enough that it didnt get too bad so he used to like to come up and work on my garden with me. My son enjoys gardening but has beeen living away from home for a few years.

Dawnald, it is that what not that will do you in every time. I found that when I worked in the garden my back and my attitude improved. I hope things straighten around for you within the next year. Life will hold some more pleasures, I am sure.

I'm something of a control freak so I get very twitchy about people doing work when I'm not there. I have had people help me and it is nice when you can get a lot done but even the most brilliant gardener would probably want to do it "their" way and not mine.

Luckily, we have very similar ideas for the garden and this was just a job that needed doing. Neither of us is going to get possessive about it because its a joint project now.

Aw, that's nice. I have my own little garden magician called Liberto. He is a Spanish guy who live in our village and he comes in to help me out with the garden, translating documents and any other odd job we have going. In return I wash his clothes for him in our washing machine (he doesn't have one) I make him soups and give him other leftovers. Sometimes I buy him some food or let him borrow our car to run his own errands. It's really good to have someone like that around, especially when they really appreciate more than money as payment for kindness and help.

It sounds as though you have a really good system there. You are both helping each other by using your own abilities/facilities to do something that the other person needs. That's a great way to live
