Hey guys, i was doing mylot and suddenly a wave of nostalgia swept over me, so i navigated away from the site and went to Youtube and in the search option wrote Summer Holiday. The videos of the movie and Cliff`s stage performances came on the screen so i clicked on one of them an heard Cliff and the Shadows on stage singing ' Living Doll".Then came 'Do you wanna dance' followed by 'The young Ones'. I was completely thrilled and became very nostalgic as i remembered all the songs we would sing during our young days. We were also the young Ones in those days and my favourite were the Shadows and amongst them lead guitarist Hank Marvin.Later on when i started my own band i played most of the Shadows music.Brought back wonderful memories of those never to be forgotten young days.

Wow! Talk about young days... I was about 9 years old at the time when I first heard Cliff & The Shadows. I can still remember how some of the girls in my grade school used to go "ga-ga" over his looks. He always reminded me of Kookie Ed Burns (of 77 Sunset Strip TV series fame), or the likes of Buddy Holly, with the way that they both combed their hair. But he had that sweeeet soft-cool voice, kinda Ricky Nelson like, that anyone during those days, just had to love. Thank you for that memory. I had almost forgotten about him. cdrxo

Yup, those were the days...Besides Cliff and the Shadows there were Ricky Nelson, Pat Boone, Nat King Cole and a host of others. Unforgettable singers with their unforgettable songs.

You said it! And as they say... "They don't make 'em like they used to." ...which I find, is an unforgettable shame. Cheers; cdrxo

I also grew up to the sounds of Cliff Richards and the Shadows and remember watching the film, The Young Ones in a local cinema. In fact we had to queue to get in! I became a musician (keyboards) and in my teens started a pop group. Beatles and soul was starting to come in then. Our first group never really got anywhere, but I later went up to Manchester and was playing with pro. bands before freelancing. Yes, listening to Cliff Richards brings back memories and each song from each artist holds its own nostalgia for me. _Derek

Those were exciting days weren`t they derek? I too had my own group THE ARCHIBEATS, since we were architecture students and we played in shows, college socials and pvt parties. we did this until we graduated and then disbanded.I was the lead guitarist and my idol was Hank Marvin of the Shadows. we used to play all Shadows instrumentals but vocals were mainly Beatles and Rolling Stones.Do you remember the song ' Black is Black' by the group Los Bravos, it was a superhit, their only one i believe.

Oh yes, I remember Black is Black by Los Bravos. In fact we used to play it. It was quite a catchy tune in its day. Well, it still is I reckon.. _Derek

This is really weird. I was JUST talking about Cliff Richard with my son. We used to watch a TV program called 'The Young Ones' which, of course, is a song that Cliff Richard and the Shadows wrote and the title of a very funny comedy series. We'd watch it every week until it went off the air. My son was so taken by the show that he recently bought the series on DVD. Actually, I was reminded of The Young Ones and Cliff Richard recently by one of my more flirtatious friends here at myLot who gave me a link to Cliff singing which, of course, led to the whole nostalgic thing. (Thanks, Dogg! )

It isn`t weird really mentalward. You can call it telepathy, perhaps you and me were on the same wavelength at that time.I haven`t seen the TV serial but have seen the movie in `63 in a theatre.

I am very familiar with Cliff Richards and The Shadows although their music was a little before my time. I grew up with Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney and Wings, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, The Bee Gees just to name a few. I love hearing music from my growing years; it takes me back to a very different place and it can be quite emotional.

Hi vijay You are right nostalgia sets in when you think of the good old days - and thanks to the internet all that can be partly relived!! And another good piece of music by Shadows was "Apache". And I do listen to all the old so called evergreens - of course on the internet- by others of that time- Tom Jones, englebert humperdink, pat boone, jim reeves, dean martin, nat king cole, etc etc etc And by the way if I am right I think we saw the Cliff Richards film together- didn't we?

Hello, Veejay. I first saw Cliff Richard live in Blackpool, England almost 50 years ago. I still love his music and regularly play my Cliff CDs. Hard to believe he'll be 70 in October. When 'Summer Holiday' came out, I went to the cinema to see it and sat through it 3 times! I was only around 11 at the time, and my parents were frantic with worry when I got back - particularly because at the time there were a couple of unsolved murders of girls around that age locally. It's the only time I remember my father getting really mad at me - usually, I could wind him around my little finger, but he was furious with me.

Lucky you sandra for seeing him live.Cliff did come to Bombay and Bangalore in India , which incidentally happens to be his birthplace which is why Indians still love him. However at that time he had been overshadowed by the Beatles and had taken up singing spirituals. at the shows in India he did sing his new compositions but he also sang his hit numbers. Unfortunately i couldn`t make it to any of his shows but watched the recordings on TV.

Cliff Richard and The Shadows were well before my time but I am very familiar with the songs and like them. Do you remember when he did a remake of the song "Living Doll" with the guys from the TV show "The Young Ones" in the 1980's? This remake and the TV show remind me of when I was a "Young One!" I have the TV series on DVD. It is hilarious, but not as enjoyable now as when I was a kid!

It was the same TV show that i came across and watched yesterday on youtube. In fact his rendering of Living Doll makes me suspicious that he was merely lip syncing the sound and pretending to play Hank Marvin`s lead piece on the guitar. I too was a young one in those days and Cliff`s boy next door image and of course his very hummable songs were the main attraction.
