Are you stuck somewhere due to the volcanic ash in northern europe airways?  email this discussion to a friend?

I am currently supposed to be wrapping up my Swedish vacation, however, it appears as though it might be more extended than I thought it would due to this volcanic ash in the airways. I am a bit disappointed because my job is going to hate me (as I already took 2 weeks off for this), and because I ran out of money and honestly would just rather be HOME. But this is something out of my, or anyone's control. It's mother nature.

Do you ever find yourself getting mad at SOMEONE for these things - even though it's clearly not their fault?

Have you heard any updates on the news as to when the ash will go away and we all can fly again?

Do you have any predictions as to how to long it will take? And are you currently stuck somewhere because of the situation?

I hate to tell this to you, but I've read in the news that this possibly could last up to six months, because there is another volcano ready to explode and with double the ash it will take a while to get rid of. I do hope for all the best do. I personally think maybe another three days or so, but who knows. Oh, I get angry on people all the time when it's clearly not there fault! Hormones I'm guessing.

You're absolutely right - it ended up being about another 5 days or so. So your estimation was totally correct. When I was talking to a good friend of mine online - she told me the SAME thing - that it could last up to six months! I was devastated when I heard this. Leave it to your friends to be totally.. un-reassuring. lol

Wow I hope you get through all this okay, I am sure you will. I am not really familiar with the area you are in and I was wondering if you could drive out of the effected area to an area with clear skies. I have been watching this unfold on the news and I know what kind of catastrophe this really is. Not just for the area you are in but for the entire Earth. The ash effectively blocks out the sun and plant life, and animals will be effected first. The ensuing domino effect of events that can come out of a disaster such as this may be felt long after the air clears as well....

I hope you are safe though and make it back home ok. Wishing you the best~

Aye, that would be a great idea. Unfortunately I did not have a car at the time nor access to one. sad but I'm sure that's how most people approached the problem. It all ended up working out for me. And I know I was in probably one of the least affected areas.. Although it was still stressful nonetheless. Thanks for responding!

At last, someone on holiday is effected! I've been listening to those idiots on TV for days talking absolute rubbish, but never mentioning holiday makers or the tourist industry. It will effect tourists as the summer season is just beginning. I was wondering if the compulsory travel insurance covers a person being stranded and running out of money. And, what are the European holiday companies doing to protect their customers? And are you others even booking a holiday this summer?

This is obviously an act of God but I feel there are still plenty of people to get mad with, because they never foresaw such an event occurring.

Hope you get home soon, Maezee!

That's true. There are a lot of expenses that came along with my flight getting delayed for even just a little less than a week. I wish someone would have reimbursed me for the wasted money spent on train tickets and the EMOTIONAL DISTRESS! lol I'm alright really. I can't believe this hasn't happened to more people on MyLot! I feel like an outsider.

I don't know how the volcanic ash deal hurt the tourist industry - but I know that supposedly airports lost like 80 billion dollars a day? Or some ridiculous amount of profit like that? I can't quite remember what they were saying on the news (it was in Sweden at the time, and my Swedish skills are very rusty).

I can't imagine this is the first time something like this has happened. I would hope that airlines would have some kind of back up plan; maybe they will after this event. Such as, I heard that many people were taking trains down to Spain and then flying back to the states or their original destination. But no one was there to cover THAT expense for me! So that wasn't an option. But it would be good if airlines supplemented that cost or something for the inconvenience. But I suppose it's not their fault. *shrugs*.

Luckily I haven't planned any holidays coming up..I'm a little burned out from my last one. thumbdown But I can understand why there would be reason to worry about those plans.

Luckily I am not stuck anywhere because of it, but I am expecting an important package that was delayed. Hopefully the ash will go away soon and everyone has safe travels!!

I hope to NEVER EVER do that again! thankfully I'm back to work and my every day life again..! Thanks so much for responding, I appreciate your concern!

Hi maezee. So, you were in Sweden?! That's why I didn't see you here for a while. How was it? I hope by now, you're already back stateside. I know that the ash has cleared up a bit a few days ago, so I'm sure you're enjoying being back to normal life (or not).

Sometimes I do that. Being mad at someone even though it is not their fault. I guess it is just easier that way, rather than accepting that you don't have complete control of a situation.

Hey!!! I have been a major slacker on MyLot lately. Not only because of my trip..But I was just burned out. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things again though, but it's hard!

I did finally return to the states. I realize that I was being kind of whiny for being stuck there for like an extra week. Although now I'm broke and back to reality..I should be thankful, actually, because it was an extended vacation, really! (That's what everyone's tellin' me anyhow).

Thanks for responding! Good to see someone I recognize after being inactive for.. months maybe? happy. Hope all is well with you!
