Little Monsters lurking everywhere... |
| |
| I am talking about black ants. They are not just the regular harmless black ants but those varieties??? that "BITE"! And what's worse is that they are housing inside our idle and seldom-used appliances. For days I didn't use my laptop cooler because it's huge and sometimes unnecessary in our airconditioned office so I stashed it under my bed. When I used it again, I was so shocked to find all those black crawling monsters coming out of the holes of my cooler and they were all over my lap. I screamed, and I shrieked, and I screamed (I said that twice! ) And when I checked, they have made themselves permanent settlers in our electric keyboard, my desktop CPU, light switches, under our electric fan...and only God knows where else. We live in a tiny hut and the walls just don't easily keep these little insects away. Is there a way to solve this without fumigating our entire home with poisonous insecticide, or without having to submerge our appliances in hot water just to kill them? Oh,my. Love, TheresaAiza in need of serious advices.... | | | | | |

| | I have done all that I can to get rid of critters like this. I had a problem with fleas and wanted to do it naturally, to avoid hurting the kids or dogs. The fleas were so bad that we ended up calling the Orkin man only to find out that what we were doing was fine enough. Oh and remember the vacuum cleaner is your friend as long as you empty it as soon as you can. Don't let it sit. But here is a link on Diametations earth. Okay, I spelled that wrong, but it's tiny seashells ground up to a powder. You can get it in the garden shops and what-not. Sprinkle it down, leave it for a couple of days, do it again and this goes on for about 2 weeks. the powder to us is like a razor blade to the ants. It cuts and slices only to dehydrate them. Since they "talk" to each other, the rest of the army will eventually go away. This is so much cheaper than actually PAYING $800 A YEAR for the Orkin man to come in. Good luck to you! http://hubpages.com/hub/H... | | | | | | |

| | I don't think there's an easy way to deal with them than using insecticides. Besides, there are insecticides available that are harmless to children. | | | | | | |

| | I would like to try natural or home remedy first before resorting to insecticides because even if they say it is safe, they always have some toxic level. | | | |

| | We have some effective poisons over here, they will eat or carry back to the nest - don't know if that would help you - here our problem is mostly an invasive species, the non-native fire ants. | | | | | | |

| | There are some things the ants will not cross, black pepper, baking soda, borax are a few of these. You can also store things in plastic bags tightly closed. Ants love to make their nests in unused places that they feel are safe. To keep them out of certian food stuffs I place the food in a container then set that container in a dish of water. You are smarter than the ants, it's just takes some time to think about how to keep them away. Being very clean is helpfull | | | | | | |

| | I think all ants bite. But i know the big black ones you are talking about. You can actuallt see their huge pinchers. Sorry i dont know what to do. I remember me and my brother use to catch those things when we were kids. I dont recall those kind coming into the house but the smaller red ones did. | | | | | | |

| | Some of them my brother and i got our hands on were less fortunate than missing antennas. Especially if we got our hands on a cakebox with the window. We would fill it with the black ants then set it on top of the trash burning barrel. With the fire lit. The ants thought they were in heaven grubbing on the cake crumbs then scurry around when it started filling with smoke. | | | |

| | Hi Theresaaiza! OMG! I don't know what to tell you! I thought that ants don't like cool places! I thought they like places that were warm! Oh, what do I know! And I thought they like to be where there is food! And unfortunately, I don't know of any way to get rid of them except calling an exterminator! How did they get into a laptop and all those other places? Those are some really odd places they picked to live! There is no food there! I hope you find some other people who have better advice! And, by the way I would have screamed my head off too! | | | | | | |

| | I can't think of any solution for ants. You need to get them out before you can take measures for them not to come in again. My problem is cockroaches. I can get them off the regular nooks and corners by cleaning daily...but the one I cannot get them out of is the microwave:( I find them between the glass of the microwave door...now how do I get there? I'll be watching this place for any suggestions that I might be able to use too. | | | | | | |
