they took my son's wheelchair away....I'm pissed!

My son was having trouble sitting in the chair one day. (He was in an accident and is recovering in a nursing home.) We talked with administration about it. I worked with the therapist as agreed. I started coming in at 6 am to stretch his hips, legs and back out real good before we even get him up in the mornings. The therapist added a special pad to help keep him from sliding. Then they came one night while I was gone and took the chair. btw, he wasn't slipping any more. He was sitting up good! Been sitting up good for like 2 weeks. I was mad as h*ll!! She didn't even ask if Chris was improving just came and took his chair. I honestly think she did it out of spite as I had applied to move him to a rehab center. She of course denies this.. but I really think that is what it was. Now he has to eat in his room and cannot go outside. What do you think? She can cover her own tail if I file a complaint and cover it all over as if it was a safety issue.... yes he did have problems but we fixed it...

I would be furious!! I would start with the head of the nursing home. I would let them know Just what I thought. I am guessing they don't want him to leave, so they did it just for spite. I would sit down and document what was done, with fixing the chair for him. I would find somewhere else to transfer him to. This is patient abuse, by the staff. I am so sorry they are giving you such a hard time.

I already spoke to the head admin here. After I thought awhile I think she did it because I made a referral to a real rehab unit. I think she's trying to get back at us.. yeah like that really worked.. I really want to stay here now! not!!!

How heartless can someone working with people in these conditions be so mean and nasty, to take the wheelchair away. I would do everything to get him out of there quick. Go with your gut feeling and know she was being spiteful and in doing that she is creating bad karma for herself. I surely hope and pray you can get him out of there so he can get better care in a comfortable place which he deserves. May God Bless you and Chris.1 person likes this

We are definitely working on getting him outta here. This should be accomplished in the next couple of weeks. It was what I needed to get me off my butt and start looking at more options! I can't believe I was just sitting here!

hi macdingolinger this is awful and I would really fight that woman on this as it looks to me like she is just tryingto keep your son there to make exta revenue. I would go to the very top, get back his chair then takehim out of there to a decent rehab facility. I think this was done out of spite for sure and there is no excuse for that. Why must p eople like your son have to bear this kind of stuff .I think she is just wanting to keep him there. thats just so unfair,he needs to be out in
the sun, she is so wrong. I am so sorry for your son.

I worked as a NAC in a nursing home and didn't last very long because of terrible things like that. I would have to bite my tongue so I didn't get into trouble!
It is unfortunate your son was treated like that.
But, I would like to commend you on being a strong advocate for your son! That will go miles further versus him going this alone.
In the meanwhile, can you get another therapist or physician to help you and your son out perhaps? Surely this woman cannot be the only 'professional' in the building?!

That horrible horrible woman. Shame on her. What she did was highly uncalled for. She needs to be reported to the topmost person. I feel really bad for your son. God knows how sickening it can be to get stuck in a room like that.
I was unwell in between and had to stay indoors for a few months. It was like imprisonment. How stupid can she be? She is just doing this to make money. It is way too apparent.
