Survival: Cooking food.

Lets say you went out, and got some food, but you have nothing to cook it with. You have a gas stove, but you're out of gas, you don't have a microwave, or a grill. You don't have matches, or a lighter. And you're all out of money. How will you cook your food?

First off you could eat raw foods, so vegetables/fruit/beans. If you have meat, then you need to make a fire, how do you do this?? Well get some bits of dry grass, hay, anything that will easily catch fire, then get two sticks, and grind them together- you can make a bow, but this is very complex- you need to strip young tree down to thin hair like pieces and tie them to a twig, then wrap it around a thicker twig, and as you rub the bow against another stick it will quickly start a fire due to the friction- this can be done without the bow, but is slower, it can take some patience but if you are desperate you would have to be patient. Once you have the fire going, you need dry logs to lay on top of it, to keep it going, from here, you can make kebabs with small thin tiwgs and cook the food like that, or make a spit out of your surroundings. If you are out in a town and not the wilderness, then steal.

Yeah that would work eventually. Have you ever tried to make a fire doing that? You're going to use alot of energy trying to get that thing started. Then you're going to be weak, and starving.

I would eat them raw too. It is said that raw, or rarely done food is healthier than cooked food for it has live micro organisms that are good for your health while cooked food kills these micro organisms. ;)

sophiaraine! who told you that? raw food is not good for you, and those micro organisms could make you very sick.

I'll just continue being cautious, and only eat cooked foods. Better safe than sorry.

Lol. Seriously redhotpogo. Most people think so. But it's healthier. But of course not all raw foods are good. There are some raw foods that can make you sick. You can do a research if you like. I'm not sure where I learned that, I heard about it a long time ago. ;)

Actually, there are other ways to start a fire. I have a flint & steel that works well with a little practice. You can also start a fire with your car battery, or with a 9-volt battery. You can also start fires with a pair of prescription eye-glasses, or with a common magnifying glass.

These are all good tips. I don't know if I would try to start a fire with a car battery. That could be dangerous. But still I suppose if done carefully it would work. Thank you for the tips.

I will go to my parent's house (5 minutes away) and cook my meal at their house - hee hee!! OR I'll go back to the store and return all that I bought and get my money back and then go to get food from a restaurant that I can take out. OR If I have raw meat, I'm not eating it. Otherwise, since I buy veggies and fruit all the time, I guess we'd be eating some kind of salad!!

oh yeah take stuff back to get food. I've done that many times before. Good ideas.

no not food. I mean you can do that. Alot of stores say there is no return on food, but working in retail I've seen alot of people take back food, so I know it is possible. But I was actually referring to non edible things that I had bought. Like if I buy a video game, and then I need food, and I have no money. I'm thinking is it better to have this game, and starve? Maybe game is a bad example, cause alot of places won't let you return games, but anyway you get the idea.

Really? I've only taken food back if it's spoiled or something that I can prove was rotten. I don't think I'd dare take back produce or meat!! Oh my gosh, a few months ago I saw someone at Trader Joes taking back a frozen pizza . . . the box was all smashed - I couldn't believe the store took it back (well, it's the store's policy to take it back if you're not satisfied).

frikin vegetarians. If all the vegetarians are eating nothing but fruits, and veggies, what are the furry animals eating? Oh no they have no food, cause the humans are eating it all, and their population is growing, since they are being eat'n less, and there isn't enough food to go around. Good bye little animals. Go to heaven. hahhaha so anyway ya that's a good idea.

alright that's fair. If you couldn't figure out how to cook something you could just eat some fruits, and veggies. Hopefully you wouldn't have to do that for too long. Fruits and veggies alone would suck.
