Did you show interest in crafts from your childhood or acquired it later?

In Sanskrit language EKA SANTHAGRAHI means, a person who learns things by seeing/hearing only once. I feel you must be Eka Santhagrahi and grasped everything so fast. I am proud of you Sallyj.

I wasn't quick, these women were very patient with me and i just kept trying. They would help me if i ran into trouble. We would do a lot of tearing out and starting over. Eventually the mistakes were fewer and fewer. That is how we learn most everything, trial and error.

Hi Buchi! I did not show any interest whatsoever in crafts when I was young.Even now I won't qualify as a crafts person who does a lot of handwork. However, I can say thAT I developed a taste in embroidery and did a few pillowcovers , a table cloth and a half finished T.V. cover.I made one crochet doll and 1 sponge doll as soon as I got married..Then , when I was a newlywed I tried some handwork using felt paper and did some sincere work and the output was a vague wall hanger. This si all that I have done by means of handwork for the past 30 years.
I am not too bad in kolams and I still put some good kolam if I want to.My mother is a great one in this and I admire her .I still have two curtains embroidered by her where she has done some fabulous embroidery. One day I shall take a picture and post it here.

Your hand work list is so long like temple chariot rope and you say you are not a craft person. Come on Kalav56, should not be so humble. It is like A.R.Rahman saying I know little music and Sachin telling I know some cricket. OK. If little is this much, then what will more be? Well please post the pictures of your crafts and your mother madam's crafts and embroidary and let us enjoy seeing them. At least upload in your profile and let us know about it.

I was very involved in arts and crafts when I was a child, and I think the all the painting, drawing and crafting helped me with color combinations when it came to making jewelry. I learned knitting at a much later age, but working with beads definitely was acquired when I was a small child.

I think you are a jewelery designer. I am sure your childhood passion for all the arts must have come handy in creating and making beautiful jewelery designs. My best wishes for that.

Very true. Those days parents concentrated on studies as they wanted us to come up in life and hold a good position in our careers. Keep painting whenever you can. Do not leave the art. I am fine. Hope this finds you and your family in good cheers.

My mom brought me up learning how to knit, I also learned how to sew when I was 8 years old, so yes I learned at an early age. I also taught myself how to paint when I was 15 years old, I use to paint peoples kitchens with farm animals and all kinds of things, I made a lot of cash when I was younger, but I haven't painted in years.

That is so interesting pmbhuntress09. At such an early age you learnt so many arts. I am happy to know that you even did kitchen painting and also earned money with your small hands. Why have you left such a good art now? Talent is a gift by God. Please continue to the extent possible.

I am very happy that your craft skills are acquired from your mom and are passed on to your daughter. Since you learnt from your mom, the skills must be great and your daughter is lucky to acquire them, the generation old skills.

You are a very talented artist jillhill. My daughter does glass painting. It is so lovely. We not only learn and create something by way of these crafts and hand work, but we also get immense satisfaction out of that. Enjoy crafting.

My mother has always been interested in crafts, and I think that she was one of the reasons why I got interested in crafts. When I was a child I watched her make dolls, christmas decosrations and many other things. She tried to teach me to knit, but I was too young at that time, and I wasn't very good at it. Today I like knitting, and I have knitted many different kinds of things. I also love painting and making my own cards. I am working on a huge painting at the moment, and that is a big challenge and a new experience.

For many of us mother is the inspiration for the crafts. My mother used to make beeds portraits, entrance hangings, embroidery, knitting etc. Then I too developed interest in these and other items. I feel like seeing your painting work. Hope you will post the image in your profile. Best of Luck.

I got into crafts at an early age. Schools were great at introducing fun and interesting crafts. I was very lucky to find crafts at an early age. I still do many of these crafts today such as embroidery. I have picked up a few other crafting hobbies over the years. It is never too late to learn a fun and exciting craft.

That is really nice of your mother to have sent you to learn something, though it was a girls' school. Any knowledge is useful sometime or other. Have a good day.
