I adopted a rabbit and 3 days later she gave birth to 8 babies - help! |
| |
| What a wonderful thing to witness new born naked babies with their mum. Totally unexpected and have rehomed all the babies now as this was a while ago but would love to share a picture of them all with you. Do you own rabbits? Do you breed rabbits. Have you ever had a shock like this with animals giving birth? | | baby rabbits with my son | | | | |

| | You mean, the rabbit is already pregnant when you adopt it? Do you adopt a male one as well? This is an awesome thing YA! I would love to encounter this situation. I have rabbits too and I love them! It has given birth few months ago with the male partner I adopted together. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Kakashi, The rabbits wer probably about 6 weeks old then, the mother rabbit is a lop earred and yes was already prgnant when I adopted her unbeknown to me. I do have male rabbits but they are kept in separate hutches so this event will not happen again. I have kept one of the babies as she is female and still in with mum which is ok. I have almost become a rescue centre now as I have two male rabbits, three female and two male guinea pigs, so it is hard work everyday cleaning, feeding etc but I buy food by the sack which works out really economical. | | Hi Hatley, to have a pet raises the rent by that much a month ridiculous. Here we pay our rent and the only animal we have to ask permission for is a dog but no rent increase. I have fish tanks too. Maybe you could have a small tank in the room as fish are so relaxing. Huggles Ellie :D | | | |

| | Well I've just commented on the lovely photo, and I decided to answer the discussion too, (just because!) It must have been a lovely surprise to find all the new babies. Did you actually see them being born? I don't own or breed rabbits, and have never had any animals give birth. The closest I've come is when we used to have foxes living under our shed, and they produced five little cubs. We used to watch them out of the window, they were so tiny to start with, and it was lovely to watch them growing up. :) | | | | | | |

| | I have bred rabbits years ago and saw many babies. I think you were lucky here : with calm and confidence, there is no problem, but after only three days at your home the mother may have killed her babies. They are really cute ! Eight is a lot ! Do you gave some ? | | | | | | |

| | Acutally I saw quite a few other things being born when I grew up on the farm...it's amazing! Glad you found homes for them! I could really turn out to be kinda time consuming to take care of all of them! | | | | | | |

| | Hi Jill every birth is a miracle eh! I kept one. They are time consuming but my son helps and the rabbits are trained really well, they all go in a litter tray except Nike y black one who sleeps in his lol and does his business in another corner and Rosie we take out for walks but they have free un in the garden but male and females are kept separate so go out at different times. I buy the food in a sack so not expensive either. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |

| | I seem to remember a rat that the kids brought home as a pet, I think it had 5 or 6 For us it was not good luck, we lost all the babies, she got to cold before we even knew she was PG. I don't even remember what happened to Mama Rat I think she got rehomed to a more rat friendly household. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Savypat, A rat is one pet I couldnever have, really don't like their tails, can't have gerbils either for the same reason. Shame she lost her babies though. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |

| | Hi there ellie. I am guessing this was a rather nice surprise back then as adult rabbits are cute, baby rabbits are even cutter. So, what did you do with them ? I am guessing you gave at least some, if not all of them away. How long were you force to keep them before giving them away ? How did your son reacted when he learned that the little ones were going to new houses ? As i read some of your answers to the other comments it got me wondering - so you kept 4 of the babies or you had some rabbits before the pregnant female ? Huggles, Alex :P | | | | | | |

| | Hi Elitess, We managed to rehome all of them except one my son got really attached to so I kept luckily she was female so is still in with mum. We did have our own rabbits already but they were male so we need to keep them separate. My son was fine with them going as they have all been homed with friends and family where we can still get to see them. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |

| | Hi ElicBxn, That must have been a shock for you especially as she had to have c section, expensive too, but as a cat lover too can understand you manage it somehow. I love my two Wilfred and Sybil. Solo is a handsome boy. Sybils mum was a crazy cat too and when I moved she chose to stay behind with a lady down the next road who spoilt her more than I did. | | Hey ellie! My nephew has gotten so big! Tell him is "Auntie Opal" misses him! And those baby rabbits are too cute! I always wanted rabbits, but my cousin had one when we were kids and they make such a mess, (at least that's what the parents said!) I actually wanted one of those lop-earred ones! Oh, if I had a bigger place God knows what kinds of animals I'd have! Dogs, cats, rabbits, llamas, pot bellied piggies! Yeah, I guess I would have a farm thing! I just love the photo of "my boy"! It was so great to see him! It's been such a long time ellie, and I really do think of you guys alot! I really do miss you and can't believe how much he's grown! Thanks for sharing the photo! Love you both, Leslie | | | | | | |

| | Hi Aunty Opal, we are back lol. Missed you too, that why I just keep returning. He is 6 now so you guessed right, not so little. It is lop earred that we have but as you can see from the picture mummy rabbit is huge. I almost have a zoo, two cats, two guinea pigs, five rabbits, tropical fish and cold water fish plus at present we also have tadpoles and baby frogs in our pond so have been kept pretty busy. As long as you keep up with cleaning everyday rabbits are not messy, all are trained and use a litter tray except Nike who sleeps in his tray and messes in another corner but that fine too as still confined to one small area,. I bulk buy the food so not expensive either. Love you too. lots of big huggles from both of us. Ellie :) | | | |

| | OMG the rabbits look so cute and you’re son is completely surrounded by them…I’ve never seen any animal giving birth but one of my friends had a litter from his dog and when we went to his house to see them, it was complete chaos all around. The pups were all different shades and you never knew where they were running and hiding so we all had to be extra careful…I nearly smothered one to death as I was sitting on the bed and just about to relax on a pillow when a little voice squealed from beneath and one pup was actually under the pillow…all soft balls of fur, absolutely delightful to cuddle. I just have one dog and that in itself is quite a bother to groom daily as I have to manage so many things, so no more pets for me. But people who have a chance to maintain pets….yes, they are lucky and their kids too. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Sudiptacallingu, Puppies are a real handful, at least whilst rabbits were small they were in a hutch with mum. Have managed to rehome all but one that we kept, the white one sat on his shoulder. The miracle of life amazes me and to see these babies grow daily is an experience I am pleased to have had. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | |
