|  The department of homeland security wants to take a farm away from a family. They are declaring eminent domain. Needless to say the farmer and his family are NOT happy.

Should the family be forced to sell part of their land...even if they don't want to? Is it their land or not? If the government can just come in and take it...then is it really yours in the first place?

| |  To me, it's a total waste of money. We need protection on the southern border...we don't need a fancy border patrol station in Vermont. I'd close the station there, just as has been suggested and direct traffic to another crossing. The only reason they're doing it..."free" money.

| | I hope the farmer wins too. DHS is being stupid. Why spend that much money on a crossing that sees 45 cars a day. Stupid waste. Let the farmer keep his land...use the money to update the other border crossings.
At the end of hte day it is his property. If he does not want to sell he should not be forced to. It is either his land and therefore the choice is his or not. If the government can force him to sell it against his will...then is it really his? | | | |

| |  well it is in the governments right to force you to sell your land, but i will object if it is not for the use of the government.
like what is happening to china, the government is forcing their people to sell their land to let the developers build apartments and such.
but i admit that it sucks

| |  Just a heads up, the Corporate Supreme Court, of the US, ruled last year that the local government can force you to sell your land for development of shopping centers and apartments. If I remember right it was a Kansas lawsuit claiming that the shopping center would improve the area...

| | You are right TTCCWW. And it is a gross misjustice in my opinion. the government should not be able to take your land or make you sell your property. It is yours. You get to decide if you want to sell.
FYI...Kansas is a HUGE abuser of eminent domain.
