My 3 year old daughter is toilet training - daiper for bed but undies during the day...yeaterday she did 2 poos in the toilet which is great because she is getting past not wanting to do them in the toilet. Anyway with her trying to clean herself up, she went through a whole roll of toilet paper on her own!! Why do kids feel the need to use so much toilet paper???

My son was the same. My daughter was never that bad, but my son blocked the toilet quite a few times with too much paper. I can remember changing the roll and then it was empty again after he had been in there. He is still hopeless at it too. He is no where near as bad as he was but he still over uses the stuff! He is a slow learner except when it comes to computer games. Then he picks things up incredibly fast!

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who wonders who "ate" the toilet paper lol

My oldest is 10 and even he sometimes uses too much toilet paper when he goes. My 3 year old has the problem of not using enough and making a mess that way. I have a package of flushable wipes in the bathroom for all of us to use, but most of the time I help my daughter out when it comes to the wiping when she has poo'd. She can manage the other times.

I have got the flushable wipes but don't leave them in the toilet like I should as they double for baby wipes when I'm out & about lol.

I think young kids try to manage in an independent way so they are still learning. An adult knows to only use a few bits of toilet paper. However a small child likes the way the toilet roll turns. It is exciting for a young child and before she knows it lots of toilet paper is out. She uses some of the toilet paper for her needs and she almost blocks the toilet because of all the toilet paper when it is flushed. I have a three year old son. He will always wear diapers because he needs catheter care. Good luck with toilet training your daughter.

Thanks for the luck as I think I'm gonna need it - mainly for the stock of toilet paper lol. I think you're right with the toilet roll thing...I went to the toilet the other night after she went to bed to find most of the roll sitting on the floor!! I'm sad to hear about your son needing the constant catheter care that he does :(

Squash the rolls before you put them on the holder - that way they don't whizz around so freely and it's harder to unwind a large amount. Perhaps it's just a thing that she is doing "because she can" she's learned something new and is determined to do it well.

I will have to remember to squash the rolls when I change to the next roll - thanks for the idea I think you may know how to read my daughter's mind because she always uses the excuse because I can lol

I think because it is a new thing to her that she has some kind of independance. I had the same trouble with my eldest, and I am sure the same will happen with my youngest when he reaches that point. I think they just find it facinating. One thing I ended up doing was to buy the Kandoo wipes which are specially designed for kids that are learning toilet training, they were fantastic for my son, and I am hoping that they will be just as good again this time round.

I guess you're right with the independence thing although she does yell out for help if she thinks it's taking her too long & I just grab the baby wipes as they are flushable. Good luck with your youngest when it's time :P
