Has anyone ever grown garlic?

I keep trying with no success at all. It just sits in the ground and rots. A friend of mine grows beautiful garlic . I try to do exactly what she does but mine will never grow. Any experts out there?

I have tried without much success, too. I tried it in the garden, but it didn't grow well. I saw in one of your posts that you're going to put it in a pot. I wonder if that would work better for me. I have heard, though, that it needs to be planted in the fall for a crop the next summer. That means that it would be in the ground over winter and I wonder if a pot would freeze too hard for it? I could put it inside, but it would be too warm and it would try to grow.

I don't know... I just heard that it should be planted in the fall and I assumed that it needed a period of cold where it didn't grow until the weather warmed up. Good luck, I hope you get it to grow!

Thanks, I definately wont give up. I have the same luck with escallion and thyme, I'm trying those as well. Oregano grows well for me but the others? Just whither and die.

We dont have a freezing winter here but maybe it needs to be planted dring the cold period? I have no idea. I am not going to give up. We are in the middle of our rainy deason so I'm going to wait for drier weather and then try againn.

We tried once on our roof top garden, but they rot,may be due to insects or white ants,as per advise of a man from agriculture department, we sprayed insectises, pestisides, but could not save. no more attempts lol.. Thanks for sharing Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

Well, I use to work in a garden center, but I'm not an expert by no means. It sounds though like you might have a problem with water, seeing it rots in the ground. Garlic needs lots of sun, and minimal water. Could it possibly be the soil you're putting it in? I mean, maybe the soil in this particular spot you're using is not good for garlic.

I've been trying it in a flower pot, I'm going to tyu it again and not give it any water and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

I havent but that sounds like an interesting idea. I know that it grows well in California, but I think that it probably grows in a lot of places. It is something that is always nice to have around.

I live in the Tropics so it should grow well here, and as I said my friend grows it with no problems at all. I think I just do something wrong or maybe I'm planting it at the wrong time or stage of growth.
