I always try to make dried arrangements for the winter and fall to have in the house. So now is the time I start looking for dry weeds, pinecones, nuts, pods and other things that I can use for my decorations. I spray them with a liquid glue to hold them together for the decorations. I have always done this even when I lived in the city, you'd be surprised how many weeds grow next to building and in vacant lots in the city. The city parks hold beautiful autumn leaves of great color and often a pinecone or two. I make it a contest not to have to buy this stuff. Have you ever tried this type of decor?

I'm not very crafty. When I moved back to the Midwest in 2007, I waited till winter and went to Walmart and other places where I could get that stuff artificially, like silk fall leaves, etc. I bought them for $.05 a bunch so I have several arrangements for my house and the whole thing cost less than $2, 3 years ago. They'll last till I'm six feet under!
I remember how I used to like to gather those things, though. It was fun hunting them and my mom and I would put them together. Now, with just me, (mom's in Florida) I don't have the motivation to go natural.
Have fun with your decor!
