Plug in the computer I fancy a hot meal

For our daughter's 21st we bought her a rather swish Apple Macbook Pro laptop computer. We are all Apple fans in this house and whilst we could have paid our mortgage for 6 months with what it cost, it never seriously crossed my mind to buy her any other make. You either "get" Apple or you don't. They are beautifully designed and manufactured and don't operate the dreadful Windows operating system; yet the charger that came with the laptop is quite the worst piece of work that I have seen in a longtime. In use the thing got so hot that we could have cooked meals on it. I wasn't at all surprised that eventually it burned itself out and whilst we are getting a replacement under the guarantee, I also bought a spare charger from E Bay. The spare was a third of the price of a new one, doesn't get hot and is in every way superior. Apple should learn from the Chinese copycat that manufacturers it. Have you ever bought something expensive only to find that it simply doesn't do the job?

I have a brand new Acer, and when I contacted them and told them my adaptor cord was toast they yelled at me! lol But it was still under warranty and though it took forever, they sent me a new one which seems to be working ok, though I have to put the computer to sleep at night so the adaptor will cool down. So if you think of it, send me the link to the fellow you bought your copycat from, cause I don't have very high hopes this new adaptor is going to last for long.

I hear ya. Acer made me feel like a total idiot. Tried to convince me that I had done something wrong. So when I sent the whole thing back, I labelled the weakness in the cord at the port plug, which was the biggest problem and when they sent me the new cord, there was a note telling me to be sure not to 'crimp' the cord at the port plug! LOL I had to laugh. At least someone payed attention to MY note! ROFL

It's like you spend a shed load of money and then you break the thing on purpose. They struggle to accept that they might just have the design wrong! The spare one is actually more robust and just as portable as the original. I'd prefer another of those but Apple wouldn't entertain that! LOL.

Well, we went through a lot of Hotpoint washing machines.. Finally got them to give us our money back and we bought a Bosch instead.

We are on our second Hotpoint washing machine and so far it's fine. But our John Lewis dishwasher (made by Bosch) is useless. We often have to wash up by hand after they've been through the washer! JL don't want to know. Fortunately my sister is senior in Waitrose and she managed to get them going through the motions but nothing significant has happened yet.

Well, I suppose we were lucky with the Bosch, and unlucky with the Hotpoints. Annoying for you to have to wash up by hand, it kind of defies the point of the dishwasher! Good luck with trying to deal with JL. I thought their customer/after sales service was supposed to be good, very annoying that you're finding otherwise..

Hi pikey! I have learned that buying "name" brands that we think are the best aren't always! Sometimes we can get the very same thing for a lessor price and it is as good or better if we take the time to do the research! There are alot of great computers out there at lessor prices that might have been even better, but when you set your mind on a certain brand sometimes that isn't so great as I found out last year when buying a new 26 inch tv! I had decided that I wanted a "SONY" brand and that was it! So I got a SONY 26 inch Digital Thingy for the price of a 32 inch tv and I am so mad at myself for "falling into that trap"! If I would have done more research, listened to others I could have bought just as great a tv for much less money! I have now learned my lesson! My next tv will be a LG Brand (Lifes Good) for less money and great quality and a bigger screen!

I have an LG cell phone and whilst it just makes calls and texts (if I knew how) it actually looks quite good and is p1key proof! LOL.

Nothing I can think of specifically (it's gone midnight and I have a lot on my mind and cannot recall anything precisely at this time). It does seem though that when I lash out and buy new rather than second hand, or I pay a high price as opposed to cheap and this applies to new and used, then I am sorely disappointed. That post of yours P1k1e is beautifully concocted, constructed and written. I hope you are proud of yourself.

hi pikey I hear a lot of people going to apple now but I did not realize how expensive the things are. Yes we bought a supposed top of the art Bissel vacuum cleaner and it was a real dud it got hot,it' stopped and any way we could have bought a Dyson instead. Once my son gets some money saved up so we can move into a two bedroom apartment 'I want to trade in that Bissell for a Dyson instead. the dyson was the same price but is a b etter built machine. good luck with the Apple laptop computer. Yes windows is sort of clunky but as I do not have any real money right now I am stuck with it. lol

We have a Dyson and it broke and lost suction! So we've got Hoover which seems fine at the moment.
