With the 2008 election the Democratic party gained complete control of the federal government. Since then the bulk of all legislation has taken a liberal view to them. Current poll numbers lead me to believe that the GOP will retake the House in November. The Senate appears to be a bridge too far. With the current climate of hard righter defeating their less than conservative opponents during the primary, the House will run as a conservative House and the Senate will have a strong conservative minority.
We go from conservatives to liberal then back to conservatives, why not moderates? Is this impossible due to the America two party system that continues to get people elected that are right of center or left of center but never in the center?

It has to do with the fringe of each party. When times are tough, the fringe takes over the debate, and they usually dictate the national discussion for that party. The problem with moderates usually don't voice their opinions as loud as the fringe does, and they usually are more open to compromise, with the fringe is totally against. The Tea Party is a fringe group, and that is why they are doing to well this year. Once the economy gets back up and running you won't hear from them again. That is how it works

Gew, unless they start to play the fear, and hate card it won't do them any good. When the American people are uncertain of their future they are very easily swayed by people talking about the good ol' days. Moderates don't long for the past, they want to make a better future, so they have a difficult time playing this card. Moderates usually want to change the direction of the country, and the way of life for Americans.

Our founders never envisioned a mess like this. They thought that anyone that served would have the interests of the country at heart, not their own agendas.
I think it's awful that D's and R's have such different views of what should be done and I wish we could get rid of party designations and just run campaigns on ideas.
There is so much competition for these seats, they spend millions for a job that pays a fraction of that. That fact right there should tell the people that they are not getting statesmen but greedy and power-hungry pieces of crap that could not care less about the people they are supposed to serve.
