A speciall accident

Yesterday about 3:30 in the afternoon everything in the house went dead. We are a country home an use to power failures often, usually they come with storms. No storm today, no warning. Then we got the news, a power pole was down on our property. Someone across the creek had caught the wires on their truck and pulled hard enough to break the pole on our side. I would have thought the wires would break first but this was not the case. Needless to say live wires were on the ground so the fire department was called, luck we had had rain or a hugh fire could have started. Pretty soon, about an hour later the power company showed up. HERE COMES THE GOOD STUFF. They got right to work, big trucks, 3 crews and their accident team. By next report, from Hubby, who went to supervise the recovery, the time to power being restored was about 6 to 7 hours. Very good news, the fire department had told us two to three days. About 3 hours later it was pitch dark with a storm on the way, but never fear the power guys had big lights and never stopped, sure enough by 10:00PM power was returned to our little house and even those across the creek. Yes the power is expensive, but I for one am greatful to this company who responded so fast and with little or not delay repaired our pole. True it was a quite day and there was no sever calls for their services, if things had been different and one of our heavy storms had been going on the service would have been much slower so I am also thankful to Mother Earth for the delay in the storm which will show up today. By the way the cost for this accident is over $15,000. I sure hope the guy who caused it has insurance. If there can be a happy accident this was it.

Wow, that is great that they were able to get your power restored so quickly. We don't really suffer from power outages around here except when there are ice storms and when that happens, the power is typically out for days on end. About two months ago, however, there was something that happened in the power substation that is behind our house. We were lucky that our power wasn't cut off, but many of our neighbors on Loudon did lose their power for a period of time. It was so dark back there that it wasn't even funny.

You have a great power company! I wonder how in the world that man was not aware that he had caught the power lines and that must be a HUGE truck!! My power rarely gets interrupted and then only for a few minutes, a couple hours at most. I've lost power twice in three years, once for 4 days because of winds from Hurricane Ike and once for 2 hours because a storm destroyed a transformer down the street. Those 4 days were very relaxed and I got a lot of reading done!

Wow, the power company did a great job and worked so very hard! I am so glad for you because this accident could have been a lot more devastating than a $15,000 bill! The best thing is that nobody was hurt and you’re right this sounds like a happy accident and all is well and it ends well.

Pat- I'm glad you didn't have a fire or anyone was hurt! What a story though! I've not had anything like that occur and currently we live in the city so we haven't had any serious power outages. Knock on wood. Now we do have the cable go out a great deal because of storms but that is no great loss to our family. We simply find other things to do like play games, etc. I think what would bother me about an all out power outage would be food loss. We have a fairly good refrigerator but I know that it can be quite costly if the food begins to spoil (thaw) or what not. I hope you didn't have any substantial losses. Namaste-Anora
