Do you always give something to kids when they are singing the Christmas Carols? Oh no! they are not singing anymore but dancing in front of your house then they will ask you to plug their socket from their Karaoke or radio inside your house so that they will start performing? Are you giving the paper bills or the coins?
Have you ever experienced joining the Christmas Carols? What kind singing or you are one of the dancers on the street or outside the house?

I've never had Christmas carolers. I don't know why it isn't popular here, but I wish it was. I went caroling with a group a long time ago when I was young, then a few years ago, we borrowed a hay wagon and drove it around town caroling and that was fun. No money involved, though, just having fun. I don't know that I've heard of giving money to carolers, although some people invite them to have hot chocolate or snacks.

Caroling started in Great Britain, long ago. "Wassailing" was what they called it, when folks went around singing and were given wassail, a hot drink, to keep them warm as they went. I don't know that people invite carolers into their homes, it's probably more like handing out disposable cups of hot chocolate now.
People who would go caroling here are not the type to steal things, I don't think. I would not be happy if they insisted on being paid in any form. We would probably have the police after them if they did that.

I think caroling is popular there in states and who knows? if that was originated there?
Like the idea of caroling is just for fun to entertain the people by not asking anything. So meaning even the carolers that are strangers at all would be invited inside the house to have hot chocolates and snacks? Oh no!
that couldn't be happen here in Manila because some of the kids tend to do something like stealing. It just so happens that here in the Philippines they are making it like an income, fund raising or earn money for their own interest.

Sadly, not many Carolers where I live. I would have to say though that a donation to whatever cause it is for is always nice.

I have seen your profile and you are living in USA so what state do you live? I am actually living here in the Philippines particularly here in Manila that is why starting December 1 or even next day the caroling will just started. When I was still young there are kids who are doing to caroling by singing in front of your house using anything as long as they can use it to beat a music example it can be an empty cans of powdered milk then a stick. Also they are using the musical toys as well. If the carolers are adults usually they are using guitar and the caroling would be more serious like people are paying more attention to them to the extent that they are giving higher amount compare to the kids. But now in our generation it is something new that they will provide a 1 karaoke or radio that they can bring it every where then they are going to perform by dancing in front of your house.

I am giving some coins to the carolers or some candies to the kids really depends. There are already carolers who are starting to do their stuff. Most of these are old folks those from the rural areas who bring their instruments like the guitar, the banjo and even a harp and they just make music but no singing. Sometimes I let them finish but sometimes I just give the money so they will stop because it's not pleasant to the ears. Then there are kids doing caroling but making fun of it and not singing the song as it should be sang. It's really sad.
I have done my share of singing carols in the neighborhood but it was pure fun and in keeping in tune with Christmas and not some kind of making money which sad to say those carolers are now doing.

yeah it really happens but then I would understand it if people will do it here because of the bad economy that they really tend to ask something from other people.
If we don't have money to give the carolers then we are telling them "PATAWAD" which means to forgive or past for a while. @dorannmwin (36392)

Since I've had a home of my own, I've never experienced Christmas caroloers coming to my house. That said, when I was younger we used to go together with our Girl Scout troop and do Christmas caroling and we would never ask for anything in return. If we were offered a cup of hot chocolate or a cookie, we would definitely accept them, however, we never held our hands out and expected something for our singing to people for Christmas.

Wow really?
you did the caroling with other people just for fun or entertainment for other people? Wow that couldn't be happen here in the Philippines because everything they do has a charge though of course they will not force you to give them something but then they are pleasing people to give them money or something.
