Political Irresponsible Demagoguery or Responsible Solutions

In a litany of "doomsday" predictions, Rep. Ryan, selected republican to rebutt the president's SOTU address, mentions the fate of Italy's financial situation as one America may be/could be headed for. Back in April, 2010, John McCain in his argument on the floor introducing his congressional amendment, relied upon Italy's (and other foreign nations)low corporate tax structure as a model for America in taxations of corporations. President Obama in his SOTU address mentioned how corporate lobbyists have successfully lobbied congress over the years in sustaining ridiculous loopholes in paying fair share "on-shore" taxes. Sooo, would you say that there are billions/trillions that may be found in tax dodging multi-national American bussinesses? And, would you say that we've been inudated for far too long with republican, kneejerk, reactionary, American economic solutions?

No, no, no ... not ALL republicans' fault! But, can they at least take responsibility for the most recent 2008 great recession happing on their WATCH ... America's financial instabilities ... I mean, just think ... I could most certainly forgive their awful leanings if they could "ever" bring themselves to apologize to the American people ... and, stop the childish plays of FEAR to troll for votes!!

I'd say we need to seriously look at why cities and states with huge corporate taxes are failing and those with good tax incentives for business are doing pretty well. Ask Michigan how much it made taxing the auto industry so heavily. Then ask the city of Houston why they don't seem to be participating in this recession.

I look at the cities in the US that wanted to "stick it to" the corporations and I look at those who wanted to cooperate with the corporations. The ones who wanted to stick it to corporations are the ones who got stuck, while the ones who cooperate are enjoying prosperity. Which is better, stuck or prosperity?

ParaTed, there is a very good read, an interesting 16 July Newsletter ... online @ Americans for Responsible taxes. It contains factual events which chronicle the 2010 congressional arguments re: fairness and responsible corporate taxation. If you like you may research it.

Hi ParaTed! Do you think it has anything to do with low-taxations of multi-national corporations and their ability to short-change America as they pay low-taxes here?

Ya know, I didnt realize that the Republicans held Congress for the last five years. I had all this time thought it was the democrats. I have heard plenty of republicans admit their part in this mess and the desire to fix it. I cant recall ever hearing a democrat do this. All I hear there is - its bushes fault its the republicans fault (sound familiar)?

Not that I expect you to answer, but what speech were you listening to? Paul Ryan didn't mention Italy at all in his remarks. What amendment of McCain's are you talking about? His proposed amendment to the Financial Reform Bill that would have dumped Fannie and Freddie rather than sink more government (taxpayer) money into failing companies? Even if you referred to Ryan's assertion that the current financial situations in Ireland, Greece and the UK, where they have huge shortfalls and are making deep spending cuts foreshadow our future if we continue to overspend, it still doesn't relate in any way to corporate taxes. If you find the idea that the money you earned belongs to you more than it belongs to the government to be a kneejerk one, then I guess my knee is jerking. Have the penny on me.

Yes, yes ... correction Ireland, etc. ... my mistake! I am courageous and honest enough to admit a correctable mistake ... and thank you very much for your observation of that mistake. And, by all means, please "expect" me to answer at any given time, if I feel an answer is warranted. ;)

....Hi there gladys46, If you chart it, I think I saw someone on television show this, but no one on the other side would or will admit it they have problems with facts. Especially two of the female leaders of the pack. When the Dems are in charge our economic situation in the country improves. But when the GOP takes over we start to go downhill. Now I have not researched this but if I am wrong I stand corrected, but this was laid out by someone on tv, I think it was Rachel Maddow and being a Rhodes Scholar as she is, I don't think she would lead me astray. So if she has the right stuff, I wonder why that is? I also think Howard Dean alluded to this stat as well. Cheers.

....gladys46 about your basic question, I think if the I.R.S. would go after the underground businesses that do not report any taxes, and close the loop-holes that enable businesses to legally not pay any taxes in essence there would be much more money in the coffers. But to stimulate businesses to invest and hire, Mr. Obama gave businesses the right this year to write off 100% of their expensed items. We'll have to see if they start hiring. Cheers.

...gladys46, Ahhhhh yes, Like the history scholar and the Constitutional law student who use their beauty to get to the head of the line because their brains aren't doing it. The overhaul of the Tax Code and the Federal government might make a difference but gosh knows how long that will take. But the right will get it all straightened out, once the Tea Party shares their worldly wisdom with them. Changes will be forthcoming. "o) Cheers.

artistry ... for some reason, I just love it when we actually have a "well informed" nation!! Ha! Yes, anyway ... just think how wonderful it would be IF these greedy corporations ceased depriving America's treasury of billions in tax revenues ... maybe, just maybe America's children would not be short changed and teachers would be revered .. ah, respected as Chinese teachers! Oh, wait, wait ... education is an elitist notion ... witness the "wealth" of knowledge coming from the right!!!
