Can we foresee the future?

I am feeling the creeps. Former Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes of the Armed Forces of the Philippines took his own life. He was an officer and a gentleman, intelligent, loyal, patriotic. The only thing wrong about his life story perhaps is his service to ex president GMA who, allegedly, was his caller before he committed suicide.
But what gives me the creeps is that, one and a half months ago, on Christmas day actually, I called up my aunt and told her I had a bad dream about my cousin, her son, who is an enlisted man serving in Mindanao, south of the Philippines... In my dream, I saw death and told my aunt that there is skirmish in the military. Lo and behold, the congressional inquiries showcased a pack of men in uniform accused of corruption... And now, for the first casualty, a fallen general in a white casket...
Do you think we can have glimpses of the future?

I think premonition is real, it's just as real as coincidences. There are people that can predict the future since I believe that there are things that can't be explained by science. Maybe it's about time you consult jaime Licauco since you could have the Gift of seeing the future which I'm sure you'll put to good use.

We can't. I had it plucked out!
Perhaps the reason why I just see glimpses now...

Once, over two decades ago, I went to Mount Banahaw. The tour guide singled me out and said that they would like to open my third eye. They said they were friends with this Jaime Licauco... I simply looked them in the eye and they uttered a word no more.
As to lottery, that is a waste of time, money, creed, and life!
I promise to treat you to some fine dining na lang, if ever we get to meet...

too bad that that's how you see the lottery. I believe in the super natural so I believe that someone who hits the jackpot is really destined to hit it. Of course, I don't deny the fact that the chance of winning is one in millions. But one chance is better than nothing right? Too bad I don't bet.
On the "treat" thing don't bother, just give me that lottery number and I'll be the one to treat you... for life.... promise!
. Now lets open that third eye of yours...

Well, I have heard a lot of people say that, that they have dreamed of bad things happening and then it actually happened. Now I really don't know if we can see the future, but hey, who am I to say that it's not true right? I guess it's one of those life mysteries we will never solve. Hehehe. I just hope that Gen. Reyes is the first and last casualty in the Military. My uncle is a general (and a clean one at that) and I do hope he doesn't get tangled with all this corruption cases.

Yeah, there are still clean and honest generals like those in our family. The sad thing though is (and this was pointed out by my cousin as well). Good and clean generals doesn't make the news, and that's what's really sad.

Thanks for advising me to consider it as one of life's mystery. I will take that advice.
My uncle is a retired general and he has a small bungalow that had seen better days to dwell in. He walks to the market and rides the bus to get to his grandchildren. My aunt couldn't believe the trips the other generals' wives had made. The only trip she made in the past two decades was a trip to Japan because her daughter graduated. No, they couldn't afford a foreign education. My cousin earned a scholarship on her own merits...

hi eileen,
it is probably coincidence.

There have been a lot of times in my life where I've had dreams of something that does end up eventually happening in my life. That is the reason that I think that we are able to see glimpses of the future through the dreams that we have. Of course, there are a lot of dreams that I've had that are so unsettling to me that I hope that those things never do come true in my life. I would hate for those things to actually happen.

Good day eileenleyva,
For me I don't think we have that capability.Others who proclaims they had that qualities are only luring others for his/her personal gains like seers, fortune tellers and the likes.I think if we were given that ability life won't be that exciting.

Yes, life is already exciting as we live it. These dreams sort of enhance our normal pace...

Yes, i believe so. It happened to me at times too, dreaming about the future and realising it when i found the scene to be familiar. However, i'm lucky in the sense because endings in my dreams are often bad, but when i'm back to reality, there's no ending to that scenario. Maybe no ending is a good ending? I don't know.

It would be a a great gift from God if we can see the future. There are chosen people that got these gifts. But don't you think its a little scary to know the future. Well in any other things, we might be able to ready ourselves for anything bad that will happen to us. There's always a negative and positive effect of this.

It could be scary, so I am not praying for such a gift. But if God intends me to have it for some plan, who am I to say no...

yes we can
every one of us is born with intuitive/psychic ability as well as physical and intellectual ability
the thing is not all of us nurture all these abilities and each person's build is different
everything that we nurture, always grow, the same with abilities
if you nurture it, you can have dreams, visions, or even see them in cards when you read divination tools

Mel, I don't think that is for me. I would not like to see visions about someone's fate. But I would like to be of help in someone's destiny...

Hi eileenleyva, Yes it is possible for us to foresee the future and especially in dreams. I have known it to happen in several cases. I've always been surprised that the Christian church has dismissed dreams as they play such a large part in the Bible story. Blessings.

Pose, I know that scientifically, there had been no conclusive research about dreams. I have no knowledge however about canon law dismissing dreams. The patriarchs Jacob and Joseph had dreams and their corresponding interpretations, so there must be a whole subject about dreams in Theology.
Now I am interested in my own dream and why it somehow materialized so soon after I dreamed about it... But I am all right if I do not get any answer, because I am not excited to know I can foresee things about to happen...

Hey Eilennleyva,
To be honest with you I think God gives us these dreams sometimes to tell us whats going to to happen or the emotion of someone. I get dreams a lot the ones that have powerful meanings are the ones that you remember. To me God shows me a lot of Dreams and I will tell the person I dream about and it will have a impact in there Life.
Sometimes God will have me up at night just so I can pray for someone. why because, something was plan but I have block it and protected them because of me obeying him. So to me when you have dreams like that PRAY!. Prayer workers. Our Bodies are physical and are only temporally but our spirit and soul lives forever.
I remember having a Dream about my Boyfriends mother. In the dream there was pain and I remind you I never dream of her haha. So this had a strong meaning and I still remember the dream as if it was real as me and you. I told her the dream and I realize she is in Pain or carrying a lot of weight. For many Years now.

Thanks for reminding me to pray. I think that is the lone solution to counter bad dreams, or nightmares...

I wish I could foesee the future, it would be so awesome! Knowing what, where I am gonna be in 10 years? 20 years? But does that mean if I saw something that I didn't like, I could change it in the current year?

mermaid, there is an old movie entitled Paycheck, starring Ben Affleck. If I remember right, he was able to change his destiny because he saw his own future...

No, we can't foresee the future not as what you describe above. It might be your past experience and your past reading about the Phillippine corruption existed within the government. It might be your logical contemplation on what will be happening if people join the government.

I believe that there are events in our world which are beyond what science can explain, and I do believe that some people are bestowed with paranormal gifts or abilities. However, on a personal note, I wouldn't want to have my life just dictated by predictions and the like.
Regarding your dreams, in my psychology class, the instructor mentioned that dreams have subjective interpretations, and that sometimes, the best interpreter of the dream is the person who dreamed of it himself.

My nephew, Adam Reyes, is a paranormal. I do not talk about such subjects with him. You are right, the best assessor of the dream is the dreamer.

Well , I see this discussion is 1 year old now but it's subject is relevant for me.
I sometimes want to plan my future and to succeed in my life that way.
The best things I can do are taking care of everything I can so my plans will come true. Things that are beyond my power , I can't control , maybe if I think and imagine them , it will have some effect like says the book called "the secret".
I watched a tv program about the bible and hidden messages in it. It looks like the journalist named Michael Drosnin sent a letter to itzhak rabin before one year before he got assasinated. That someone read a hidden message in the bible about an asasination involving itzhak rabin.
You can read about it at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Drosnin.
I think the future is determined by random events and by our thoughts and by our choices and actions and many other things we are not aware of.
We can maybe think about the future , try to shape it but the reallity will tell if we did it well.
