Garage sale: for bad luck?

Last year, me and my friends decided to have some sort of garage sale in my place. My mom was really against it, because she feels like it's not good. It can create bad luck. But we didn't really listened to her. Then, this year, I realized that I can no longer wear my clothes appropriately. So, does it really meant bad luck? My mom's scolding me a lot of times already.

No I do not think it is related to the garage sale. If anything the garage sale is a good way to be rid of some unwanted items and make a few bucks. Just take it as a coincidence and hope it goes well.

I'm hoping for the best. I find garage sale exciting, but it seemed like my mom's too against it.

I never heard of that type of badluck before and I don't know why it's bad luck to do so. Anyhow, we know how old people are and there are beliefs that they can't get over even if they see that there's nothing wrong with it. I could remember my grandmother scolding us for sweeping the floor at night because she says it's bad luck. I could also remember her getting angry if we wear black shirts or black attire because it's only for the time of grief. Further, questioning those beliefs have given me a lot of whips when I was little because she says it's bad luck to ask about those and we only need to follow. Well, I'm not really saying that we should laugh at them and those beliefs, regardless how old those are, we can't blame them for following it still and trying to instill it in our lives as well. We must respect that. What I could suggest though is for you to do it in secret. I'm not saying you're going to hide, I'm saying why not do those transactions in a way that she would not notice it? For one thing, you could post it online through Facebook (like how people do it these days) instead of letting people come in and look into stuff. In that way, you'd be organized and could have better costs for it because it's already neatly presented. All in all, I do miss my grandmother and still do appreciate what she and mom would tell us. There may be some things better done today than yesterday, but there is still value in what they're teaching us. The wisdom they share would never grow old.

Well who's stopping you from using another name? hhehee.. You can do whatever you want if you are really determined to do so. My grandmother already passed on, I am in the Philippines. :)

Your grandma's beliefs are the same with my grandpa and my mom. If you don't mind me asking laydee, where's your grandma? Sad to say, I can't make transactions on Facebook, because my mom is an active user of it. I'm pretty sure that she'll get angry and she might scold me online.

Hello Elsemarie, Isn't that annoying? Our parents can still be superstitious even at these modern times. though am not related to your situation though but when ever i used to sweep the floor outside our yard, my mom would be mad and say that it's a complete bad luck to use the broom at night and clean things.but we actually got lucky because of these developments. well, it's better to keep them until appropriately necessery to "give" instead of sell.have a nice day

Yes, they really are dwelling on superstitious beliefs most of the time. I hate it! But I can\t do nothing with it because they are our parents and we should respect them.

I don't know anything about bad luck for having a garage sale.Maybe she mean you are giving your things for a small change.About not being able to wear clothes appropriately, maybe you lost or gain weight.

Maybe I was, but I usually buy clothes that are a bit bigger so that I can use them for a longer period of time. I'm just wondering why those clothes aren't too nice to wear already.

I don't know what wearing clothes has to do with bad luck, or garage sales either, for that matter. I've never heard of garage sales creating bad luck and I've had a few of them. I would say that your clothes problem is due to other things.

That's crazy. I'm not trying to be mean to anyone, but it is not bad luck to have a garage sale. There are reasons why one's clothes won't fit (weight gain, weight loss, shrinking after being washed), but bad luck is not one of them.

Well this is a new idea. I have never heard a garage sale was bad luck. I have never had one but I have heard negatives about them. Mostly I hear it's not worth the hassle. The little amount of money you make isn't worth it, but as I said, that is just what I heard. They must be ok since many have them. What do you mean by not being able "to wear clothes appropriately"?

Sorry if I was not able to elaborate it...I'm having a hard time figuring out on how can I explain things up. My clothes no longer fits well in my body. I think I gained much weight.

i never heard of garage sales being bad luck thats very new to me. i know i have never had any bad luck from them before. so i don't think your clothes issue would have anything to do with it. if i were you i wouldn't worry to much about it.
