I have in my possession loads of cute little Venetian Blind samples. I have had them since July 2009, hoping against hope that at least two of the Vertical Blinds in this house (downstairs) would be replaced. I have had a long wait. The cat damaged the Vertical Blind at the front window a few weeks ago and I thought nothing of it until hubby told me to "ring up Carlisle Blinds so we can receive a quote off them." Naturally, I was pleased at this development so wasted no time arranging for someone to come round, measure up, etc. John is off for three days and he actually remembered the type of blinds I like (to the salesman) as I have gone on about this particular sample many times. If we'd ordered white they have them in stock and could've done them today probably BUT these posher ones have to be made to order. They have also been paid for with a £10 discount as John's printer firm does work for Finesse Windows, the guys who are sub-contracted by Carlisle Blinds to do the work. They have a great reputation, unlike Hillary's Blinds that are a national company who have upset customers by shoddy workmanship lately. The blinds shall be delivered and installed in about 3 weeks. I am willing to wait that long. After all, I've had hold of the sample way, way longer than that so a couple more weeks won't make any difference. Have you had anything new done to your house lately? Are you pleased with the results? Below is a picture from the internet of the blind sample. I love the diagonal, stripey effect on it and I am so excited that a) I shall have new blinds very soon and b) the hideous (inherited) curtains will be taken down and disposed of. Hoorah!

Preiti - Preiti looking out the window that has blinds. A perfect lady
We too have blinds which we opted for after having bad experiences with curtain in our old flat. This is a house that has several windows and curtain would have meant heavy maintenance. But our dog Preiti when she was little damaged quite a number of our blinds which we have now replaced. She is now a dignified lady. She is seen here looking out of the window.

Funnily enough, since a cat owner from next door moved house last year our own cat doesn't sit on the windowsill as often as she did, as she was only interested in growling at them lol. We do let her onto the windowsills, obviously, but I'm hoping the new Venetian (aluminium) blinds will be a bit more robust than the Vertical, fabric ones.

Mine are aluninium ones but a puppy has enough energy to rip them apart!

oh janey how I wish my son and I could afford to rent an apartment again and have worries like new blinds and stuff. this reutrement center is more tiresome every year. At least we are in a new room with new whitle vertical blinds that always look good and a plush rose colored deep pile carpet on the floor. Myh son is still in his gov.sponsored apt with three other guys.neither of us wanted this bu t beng homeless was the only other alternative. he has a part time job but it does not pay enough for us to rent a two bedroom apartment.lI never dreamed I wo uld ever be saying here in California the economy is horrible no jobs and p lent of men out of jobs.

That's OK, Hatley. I knew exactly what you meant my friend. There's nothing worse than living somewhere where you don't have a cnoice in the matter. Even basics such as blinds cost a lot as I've not gone for white, basic ones, plus the fact the windows are long and narrow, therefore the blinds themselves have a large area of window to cover. Gone are the days when these things were cheap to buy.

Wow..cool! :-) I've been meaning to do a lot with the home....major renovation needed...but don't think that's happening soon. We might get some painting done in the next couple of months. The latest addition to the home is a 47" TV. It's mainly for the boys and makes no difference to me.

As I said...the boys are enjoying it! I'm not much of a tv viewer and a smaller one is fine for my regular watching. This new one's got 3D conversion too and the boys are ga-ga over it!! Good luck hunting for your new TV:-)

Wow, that's a big TV! We'd be happy with a 32" version as it would go in the corner. The in-laws are supposed to be buying us one, leaving us to pick..later on in the year. Can't wait!

I'd like to get some custom blinds or drapries in my house. However with the way my kids behave I may as well hang an old bed sheet over the curtain rod. It sux we'll have to wait a few more years til they can be respectful and behaving of property to invest in something nicer.

Awwh I am happy for you Janey and oh boy do I remember this grand feeling when I got mine for the house I use to own. Gosh when they went up I felt like I had bought a brand new home. Have fun and enjoy your brand new blinds.

Thanks very much for those kind words. Yes, to me blinds are a BIG thing as the ones we have at present really are on their last legs. It's not as though I've got bored with them..they've been up since before John bought the house in 1998..so your guess is as good as mine as to how old they are. I'm also using it as an opportunity to get rid of the hideous curtains and wooden poles that he inherited at the same time..then John can save up for some nice curtains sometime in the future. If the blinds look good enough on their own we might not bother..but we shall see!

Sure enough, the picture of the blind sample is very beautiful.I have never seen this type of blind with diagonal. They look like the beams of light.Ours are parallel ,how stiff they look !I can well imagine that your house will take on an entirely new look once you install them.I hope you don't mind, this time, your moggie did a good turn.

My moggy did do us a good turn didn't she? I really should go and give her a very big hug! I'm glad you like the style of blind which will look parallel like yours when they're installed (we call them vertical) and I shall take a photo of them once they're in. Could be a while off yet, but I shall do it!

Well that will be a nice change for you. I guess John does listen if he remembered what kind of blinds you wanted. Gonna have to set the cat to disturbing some others so you can get them fixed up next.

Haha! Good point. Well, at least we're getting the undamaged one replaced (that is opposite), in the same room, so that's good. I guess it would look silly having one blind totally different from the other..also it doesn't cost John any extra having another blind so it makes sense financially too.
