Hello Lotters,
I kNEW IT! I KNew it! I knew it
would come to that.
but she shouldn't have accepted it in the first place. her reasoning now was that her friend needed to get accepted in that school so she accepted the role of being an assistant principal. their original agreement was for her only to do administrative task, and not having additional load for teaching.her job was Assistant Principal but how come she has the same level of salary as the teachers, which was 8,000Php only (minus taxes).
But then, the Principal change her mind and her reasoning is that due to shortness of teachers, she decided to have my mom part of the teaching brigade. my opinion was that, it's too much and She finally decided to QUIT
because i know she didn't want to pressure by both teaching and administrative jobs.
Well, if she was 40+ younger but even during her teaching times she can't do administrative work and teaching job at the same time.
would come to that.

Congratulations to your mother for making her stand!
Sometimes, people would be a bit of opportunist. Perhaps the principal was thinking that your mother wouldn't complain but she was wrong. Imagine, having two types of jobs at a salary level that do not compensate!

Hello simplyd,
she didn't want to have that kind of job against except to order around and organize things. i don't think she remember the agreement that she said before she took the job. she could have demanded another salary increase but that would have pressured her to do more. so, she just quit, which was the right thing to do.

Congrats! It's not really something to celebrate about but seeing you so happy about it make me cheerful too.
It's good that your mom is not forcing herself for a job that she doesnt really need. Time for her to relax and enjoy life. Maybe you should introduce her to myLot so she could get a new hobby.

Hello ddaguno,
Yes, it is something for me to celebrate even though i hate her ordering me around the house. it's better that way because that's the purpose of her retiring from her teaching job in the first place. we have commercial post right now and it's not good for her to be working still. i think she has a lot of activities in her religious organization that she kept ignoring because of her works.

At first I though, why should she quit? Then I saw the salary.
Are you joking? Teachers in your area get paid like that?!!!????
I am a part-time teacher at a University here in my area and I think I wouldn't be teaching if my salary would only be that. I have heard from a friend of mine, a full time co-worker, she said that the starting basic pay from out school was about Php 12,000.00.
Anyway, I don't think it's fair either. I think she should be paid separately for teaching (if there was such thing as overtime load there) and another one for administrative work (her regular job).
I think it's good that she quit. However, that's another income down the drain. But still with all the effort that one puts into, I think it should not be taken too lightly. It's not a joke to be teaching. Neither is it a joke to do administrative work while teaching.
I am now wondering how much the principal earns?
Have a great MyLot experience!

dear LK,
I am annoyed seeing the figure.
I remember when our town mayor give me the chance to be one of the municipal scholar, and the bargain is- i need to take up "education" ,my answer is "thank you mayor".
Since my childhood,I've been asking why teachers are having so low salary.
How could it be?....when there could be no doctors, lawyers, engineers and other professionals without them.
See...it's already 2oth century..and what the ......salary they're receiving.
So sad

Hello Sis Jaiho,
How are you lately. yes, not to mention that was a private school where she got that salary from and not public.that's true, there can be no other professionals with out the teachers. but reality is hard and you can't help but honor those people who actually teaches even though it's not as good as before.

I do hope that she is okay with the decision to have to quit, but then at least she did get the chance of seeing what it was like by trying it out.
Maybe now she will realize that it is time to slow down for a bit and enjoy some of her off time doing what perhaps she may like to do.

Hello
hardworkinggurl,
She should just slow down, but she did say that she did it because of her friend applying as a teacher. it is good that she decided not to continue because the salary is low and the journey can make her asthma a lot worse than ever.

hello friend, my mom is an Education graduate too major in English and she graduated from U.P. so we have something in common, (sons of teachers)
, the only thing my mom never taught or practiced her profession instead she joined my dad in his business during the 60's, anyway 8k? is that what they pay teachers right now? considering that is a private school, I wonder how much they pay public school teachers. Teaching is a noble profession and I love my teachers but with a salary like that no wonder a lot of them are leaving to become private tutors in foreign countries. Your mom is right for holding her ground, she also has to be paid more besides the principal should have made it very clear from the start what her function or job description was was from the start and not change what was agreed upon in the first place. Yes she needs a break, but if she really wants Administrative work, I think the commercial spaces you have is already there to keep her busy and productive plus the thought that you have each other side by side while managing

My Mom became a teacher because of my Grandfather's old fashioned, post war mind set that all daughters had to become teachers
and sons can take up the course they wanted, out of the five sibling daughters, 2 became teachers, my mom and my late old maid aunt who helped raise me, the other three sort of rebelled and took different courses.

hi letran your poor mom, that was sneaky trying to get her
to do two actual jobs for the price of one, thats really pushing it.I know they
have done that in some schools here in C alifornia and the result is
those doing the two jobs in one had a quicker burn out rate than just
plain teachers or assistant principals. I also cheer for you mom as
thats just too much for any woman young or old. or middle aged.I do
not know your mom's age so am not trying to diss her here at all.

8k for an Assistant Principal? I am sure the position carries with it some serious responsibilities but the salary sounds like a joke. And they want to give her teaching load?
That does not sound good.
I do not think the stress that would be put on her health would be worth that salary.

Hello Rainegurl,
Yes, that's what i realized now. but i didn't see my mom complaining at first, not until she decided to quit. though she was ranting about it before i just didn't see it at first. stress is nothing compare to her asthma which is a lot worse than before. she's really is a tough person but she can't keep it up with that kind of salary.

Well I'm sure you're happy now that your mom's retired from work, at least she's got more time with the family. Though I know you said that she's been ordering you around while she's home. Anyway, it's time that she takes a rest from her everyday job and enjoy the rest of her years.

Hello
junra,
Yes
, not only that am happy but also my mom because she doesn't need to go through the commuting. it's better if she orders me around, i don't want her going outside that much. besides, relatives don't want her working in the first place.

Hello chipes,
It's already a sign of good times when she had constructed that commercial business in the first place. as of now, she's busy cleaning up the back yard with some of her helpers. am sure it's better for now not having any kind of job yet since she has a lot of things to do for now.

Now that the matter in which your Mum acted as an assistant principal is as good as settled, why did she have the same level of salary as the teachers? No wonder your Mum felt very hard done by.And again, laid aside the salary problem, she had to do some teaching in addition .The principal went back on her word.

Hello changjiangzhinbin,
it's not fair when i realized it after she resigns. she should have higher salary than the ordinary teachers because she has a farther experience also as a master teacher. good thing she had the option to resign because of this. it's not good for her to take three rides i think most specially if it's not considered air conditioned since she got asthma

Finally you got you wanted i remeber you never wanted your mother to do job in that school.
But this is bad on principal's part she should not have turned up from her committment. This true no body can tolerate much work load at this age but really i salute your mother still willing to work at this age when people need rest & want to sit at home.

Hello sjvg,
Yeah, not just me but also my relatives..well, she only stayed there because of my friend. she doesn't want to hang around much at home but i think i prefer her being active on other things except teaching or any kind of administrative work.
