Most Unusual Raffle I've Encountered

I mentioned in an earlier post that my village is holding it's annual festa this weekend. It's a good excuse for the community to come together with some music, but it's also the primary way that money is raised for community projects. This year the highlight is a raffle, but with a twist! The prize is a cow. We're a rural community, some people I guess would keep it and others barbecue it. Anyway, the raffle numbers are laid out on the floor in an area which is fenced off. The cow is released in there, and the winner is the one who's number the cow chooses to sh1t on! I've got quite a few tickets, so wish me luck. Imagine if I win though, I'll have a lead a cow home on a rope heehee Have you heard of a raffle like this before, or something equally fun? Would you have a go if this was your community?

I don't get what " the winner is the one who's number the cow chooses to sh1t on" means.Over here ,people usually act in an opera in the country on New Year's Day or other festivals.Your annual festa killed two birds with one stone, you not only came together with some music but also raised for community projects.

You buy a ticket with a number on, and all the numbers are transferred onto a grid. the cow is tied in the centre of the grid and allowed to wander about. When she does what comes naturally, the holder of the ticket which matches the number of the grid square she has relieved herself in is the winner.

This has got to be the funniest raffle I've ever heard about! Keeping my fingers crossed for you to win. We've just had yesterday a celebration at the summer school where I work. It was in the form of a competition for children, to show their artistic projects, and all the parents came by. Now, I keep telling the parents that, if they continue to allow their children to bring mobile phones to school, I'm going to give their children a free puppy to take home. So, at the end of the show, I announced: Everybody is a winner, and everybody will receive a puppy! The kids were all in on the joke - the puppies were stuffed toys - but the faces of the parents for the next five minutes were priceless. The cow seems a good idea - maybe next time I'm going to threaten the parents with a cow. (We live in a big and crowded city, I think some of the children have never even seen a real cow.)

Although we're in a very rural area, I think most of the people who bought tickets for our raffle would have been horrified if they actually had to take the cow home. I guess it'll end up in someone's freezer. It was a beautiful animal, I'd have taken it home in a moment.

No...but it sure sounds like fun. At least the people in your community know how to step out of the box and have some fun! Our raffles are boring! Good luck by the way!

Actually it was a dull as dishwater. I never really thought about how long it might take a cow to do it's business before, but it seemed to take for ever. And watching a cow wander around on a rope really isn't that exciting once the novelty wears off!
