My sister and I sell our old clothes once in a while when we are in need of money or when we just need to unload our cabinets and closets. Last time it was my sister who sold many of her old clothes and now is my turn. But I am also thinking of selling some of my other stuffs, old ones, stuffs that I have used only once, and stuffs that I bought but was not able to use. I'm thinking of the things that I can put in my garage sale for the next weekend. This will be my first and I hope I can sell a lot. How about you guys? Have you ever put up a garage sale? What stuffs did you sell? Was your garage sale successful?

Oh yeah! My family has done plenty of garage sales. We sold clothes, even torn ones and vintage items. Shoes, bags, display items made from ceramic, glass, plastic, etc. Even CDs, DVDs, cassette and VHS tapes, VHS tape rewinders, various audio and electrical appliances, furniture, and what-have-you. We sold anything and everything. And yes, all were successful. Indeed, one man's trash can be another man's treasure!

Wow. I wish we can do that. We only have a small space in front of our house and people do not notice whatever we're selling immediately so we always put a sign board outside our gate. But lately it's been raining hard so people don't come by much. I've also thought of selling old shoes. But most of my shoes are so worn out I'm embarrassed to even give them out.

Yeah, it's not a good idea to have a garage sale when it's the rainy season. So make sure to hold yours during the summer, or dry season. Putting a sign board outside your gate is good. But what would be even better is if you put a sign or poster at the end of the street, on a light or street post for example. Get a poster out also some 2 more blocks. Find out if you have bulletin boards in your area where it's free to post things too. Post also near your village gate. Don't be embarrassed about selling your old shoes. I'm telling you, my mother brought out her worn out, dusty and tattered working shoes and someone still bought them for 10 pesos! 10 pesos may not be much, but it's a lot better than giving that shoe away for free or throwing it in the garbage can.

I forgot...I even sold old magazines, books, pocketbooks, and other reading materials. Toys too. :) I think, as long as you make sure to get the word out ahead of time (like 2 weeks before) via pamphlets or posters, and even hand out some to people at nearby establishments like stores, buildings, churches, etc., you'll be fine. And pretty soon, your garage sale will get known by word-of-mouth.

No, the garage sales concept is not popular thing to do here..People here like bundles but not garage sale. Me too think about it and plan to sell my old things which are still in a good shape and working.. I am planning to sell my clothes as well- There are some I have never ever wore yet... I think I want to asked my younger sister to do it together with me. We have lot of comics/manga but I don't think we a re going to sell it nor send them to recycle centers..hehe...(^^)

I used to have a lot of anime magazines. I couldn't part with them but it was piling up and occupying to much space in my room so I didn't have a choice but to sold a few them.

You should sell those you don't like the most! That's what I did, just to make some space. Sometimes I think of selling the rest but whenever I see them and touch them, I always change my mind.

Oh, for me no one could ever dare to touch them without my permission. I love collecting those books but I stopped when I finish my high school and only bought some of them. We have a few big boxes containing them. Now my sister is continue the habit of collecting them. But like you said its piling up..and I have no idea where to put the books in to~(^^)

Thanks for the comment. It seems most people sell old books, toys and clothes. I wish I can find my old romance novel books.

I never had my own garage sale, but I help friends with theirs from time to time and I buy stuff from them frequently. I have bought glassware, furniture, games, and once a bicycle. Also books.

I do not have my own garage, so I've not had a garage sale. But my younger sister has had a garage sale. She got rid och many things she didn't use. It was clothes, decoration stuff and toys and sport items. We have some calls trunk sale also where you park your car a a parking lot and you have sale opening up your trunk. Have a wonderful day! Happy mylotting!

I think you don't really need a garage to have a garage sale? It's just called like that because it's usually done in a garage? But you can always do it in front of your house or somewhere that people can see. Trunk sale sounds interesting. That would be very convenient! You just put your stuffs in the trunk, open it and sell it and when you're done, you just close the trunk and that's it! Nice.

Hai I am always fascinated with this garage sales. But unfortunately in India or at least in the part of India in which I live, there are no garage sales. I wish there will be garage sales here so that we can buy things at cheaper rates. Right now I want to buy a small wooden stool and it costs more to make it new. I would have got it cheaper in such garage sales is it not?

Yes, of course! You will totally get a cheaper stool from a garage sale. Maybe you can start a garage sale of your own. Sell all of your old stuffs that you don't use. Then maybe your neighbors will follow your example.

before christmas of 2009 we had a garage sale. things that are at my closet (mine mostly) were the one out for sale. i have a lot of stuffs that needs to go. but since i dont like to throw them and some was given to charity we decided to sell it. some are clothes that i wore for a few months. i sold a couple of my guitars, and a keyboard, i also sold a few CD's. some pocket books, stuff toys and toys. some action figures and more. some baby clothes that was used a few times. since it was before christmas the cousin of my wife puts her things to sale but all are gift items and all new. so we just increase the price a little so we can have a little cut from selling it. it was a success.

That's great. I hope that if I put out some of my stuffs, my sister would be encouraged to sell some of her children's toys. I remembered all the pocketbooks I collected back in high school. I just let it go to waste. I wished I had sold them before.

i haven't put up a garage sale ever since. i'm kinda scary in putting up one because it might not be successful but if i were to put a garage sale the stuffs that i would sell are blouses that i only wear once and that are small to me, some jeans, sandals/shoes and some of my dresses :)

Don't be scared. If it will not be successful then it's okay. That's business. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And in this case, you wouldn't even lose anything.

Every year, I will go through my possessions and gather together everything that I think I could sell. I don't do a garage sale, but I will sell items online which is basically the same thing. I always have August as a time where I don't have much else on in my life, so I will do that then and sell everything which I don't think I need anymore. It is a good time to start saving up for things that I will need at Christmas, so I will normally be able to make around £500 during the time that I am selling things. They will be clothes, books, DVDs and sometimes even furniture that I no longer use. It's much better than just letting the things clutter up your house when you don't need them.

That's very nice Gemma! I think most people have less money during the month of August. At least that's true here. So I think having a garage sale with very low prices of goods will attract many people.

Although i never done any garage sale in my area, but i know what things in my home can go for sale. I have some old clothes which i only wear once or twice and still looks new and in good condition. There even some baby clothes and toys and even some unwanted home furniture. In fact, i even have some postage stamps, which can be sold since there are still in very good condition. But, most of the time, i just give away my old unwanted clothes to my relatives. Hope you will be able to get good income from your garage sales. It is really good that you can earn some extra income through that way.

I also give old clothes to my relatives but now, I don't think my clothes would fit any of my relatives so I'm just selling them away.

@bear never did a Garage sale. Although sold some stuff online on Ebay the amount of money collected was not too much though. Great thing garage sale sell your unused things to money online, if it fetches a fair price then it too good.

I have had a garage sale and I sold all kinds of stuff. I sold baby stuff, antiques, CDs movies, bikes. The best thing about garage sales is what is being sold is so unpredictable. My mom would find really cheap little tykes stuff for toddlers and then turn around and sell it on eBay for three times more than what she paid for it at the garage sale.

Hi secretbear! I never had a garage sale. But if ever I will set a garage sale, I'll probably sell a lot of books, stuffed toys and clothes. I have a lot of clothes that I no longer use. Most of them are small for me to wear already. There are clothes that I just wear twice or thrice and it still look new. God bless on your garage sale. I hope you earn a lot of money.
