Two weeks ago, Sunday, me and my boyfriend have attended two masses in two different churches.. In the morning, we were participating in a mass which we were just invited to attend to. Sunday evening, we went to attend a mass of our religion.. I kinda liked the way the other religion conducts or offers their mass but I have no intention to get converted to theirs. I just like to hear their pastor explains to the people. Do you think, it's okay to have two religions at the same time? I don't want to get converted because I want to stay in the religion where my parents brought me up. What do you think?

I have the same feelings as you. I want to stay in my religion but sometimesI want to attend in other religion. I think it's okay because they praise only one God and they both explain what is in the bible. I agree some pastor explains the bible very well. I am a catholic and I have attended in a Christian church trice and first time at Aglipayan church in Manila. The Aglipayan are like catholic also. Everything are the same expect that the one that preaches is a pastor and not priest. At first I thought it was a catholic church because the inside was really the same as Catholic church and I ask someone there if it's catholic and he said yes. To be honest I really liked the preaching of the pastor in Aglipayan church. It was clear and I learned a lot. I felt like I want to attend there more often. I just attended there once. Then after 6 month I found out that it's not Catholic. I don't go to church regularly. Now when my mom asked me to attend the mass I always feels like going their in Aglipayan. I don't attend my church regularly because sometimes I'm lazy and sometime I don't understand what the priest was saying. After the mas I don't really learn a lot. But still I want to stay Catholic.

Perhaps there are some prayer groups in your area you can attend to learn more about your faith with others of your faith. Also, retreats and days of reflection are great to go to. Someone else speaking may help clarify what you are hearing at Mass. Do you have any deacons at church? Perhaps it would be easier to ask him some questions about the gospel teaching from Mass. Here is the EWTN daily mass website: http://www.ewtn.com/devotionals/inspiration.htm You can read the readings of the Mass here, daily and on Sunday.

Personally, I would think that God would be happy to see you regardless of the denimination you came visiting through..and, as I recall, Jesus said..'Where ever 2 or more are gathered in my name, there too am I.'. No mention of denomination. Only of intent..Enjoy!

Well according to the Catholic religion you are not supposed to go to any other church then the Catholic church. I am certain however, that, that was a man made rule and not a rule of God. If the other church's are Christian churches as well I don't see why it is a big deal to go to the church of another religion as long as they basically believe the same thing. Church is about gathering and praying and rejoicing in our lord. I honestly don't see why what church you do that in really matters.

Depends on who you are trying to please. If you know God and have a good relationship with him then I doubt he would care if you went to visit him in the mountains. (That's where I go.) It is the hypocritical people on this Earth that look down their noises at people who chose to check out different venues and see what other churches have to offer.

Hi jdex: Well, in my opinion I don't think this would be a good idea. I respect everyone's opinions and their religion but I think that attending another religious mass goes agains my fidelity to my religion. It's like being married, you won't date someone else if you respect your couple. ALVARO

I think it is perfectly fine. Regardless of what mass from any religion I guess they are all the same-they give us good teaching. We have all come from the same God anyway even though we are taught differently. There is perfectly nothing wrong with that. What's important are the good lessons you are taking. I would also even go if I have the time. I am Catholic but I have always accepted every religion in my heart.

Yes I do. I often visit different churches so I am what is known as a "Pew Jumper" I really like to hear how different religions preach their particular beliefs. Personally I think it had made me much more tolerant of other branches of Christianity,

Hi jdex! I don't think it's wrong to attend masses of two different religions. As long as you have only one faith. I mean, if both religions are preaching the same thing, then I don't think there's something wrong with hearing what they teach. And besides, everything would all boils down to what you believe in anyway. It wouldn't matter what religion you are in. As long as you have a strong faith. When I was in high school, my friend took me to their mass, she was a member of a another religion different from mine. I attended it and I thought there was nothing wrong with it. It wasn't like I was going to convert, and even if I wanted to convert, it was my choice but it doesn't mean I don't have faith. There is only one God anyway, He is just named differently in different religions. Oh, I didn't convert to my friend's religion by the way. I didn't like the way they conducted their mass.

When you say, "two different religions" I wonder if you mean the term "doctrine" or "denomination" because I don't know of another faith that calls its service "mass" other than Catholicism and some divisions of Protestant Christianity. Personally I believe denominational differences usually aren't significant and have no bearing on salvation. I've been to Methodist churches and Baptist churches, and in all honesty... the message was the same. lol I'm a non-denominational Christian. I believe in the saving power of Christ, not in the denominational exclusivity to salvation.

Yes. I've done it. I am a Baptist but I've been to Methodist and Pentecostal services. I love the Petecostal because they not only get in the spirit, but they release all the tensions of the week. I believe in a sort of Einsteinian Unified Field Theory of Churches. Although I see that many churches think that "only they" have the answer, I think every church has a piece of the puzzle. I say this because I've seen too many people argue over their churche's differences. I forget the chapter and verse, but I know that "wherever there is more than one person" there "God is in the mix." I've even written some stories to that effect such as "The Church" at Residential Aliens online.

I don't see a problem with it. After all, they all point to one thing. God. Now, I am not a religious person and I have no intention on going to church. I grew up going to catholic school and that is what turned me away. But, again, it does not matter.

I think it's nice to have only under one religion. I also think it is alright that we can attend services in other religion. For me, I am only under one religion but I also attend bible sharing in other religious congregation as well as their mass/service.

Will it really depends on your conviction on your religion. If you really want to stay in your religion and dont want to be converted then your boyfriend should respect it. And at the same time, if your boyfriend want to stay on his religion then you should also respect him. The problem that i think will occur is that when you have children already. Your children will have no clear basis on what they should believe.

ah, yeah.. of course God does not mind that very much. after all we still go to the mass to hear God's words. the place and who delivers it does not matter that much as long as he is a man of God.

Of course it is ok! I think it is wonderful you are seeing how another religion works. I find the more I learn about other religions the more faithful I become in my own religion. i think it is good to learn about other faiths. It brings us closer.

It's your belief that tells you whether it's right or wrong. Other religion strictly disallow their members to hear the word of God from another church because they fear that their members might get confused and brainwashed. The church that i go to doesn't prohibit us. The church that i got to is non-dominican and is open to all people from different walks of life and religion.

There's nothing wrong with opening yourself to different beliefs. In the end, it will be up to you where you will put your faith in. For me, I don't believe in any religion so I believe that all churches are houses of God in which you can worship.
