Why are pancakes in the middle of the night so good?!

Last night, after the Seahawks-Raiders pre-season game, and seeing that there was nothing good on TV, I went into the kitchen to look for something to eat. At about that same time, the kids also dropped their games, and were also headed for the kitchen. We were looking in the cupboard and saw the box of pancake mix.
We haven't had some for a while, so we decided to make some! There was nothing else on the pancakes, just the butter and syrup ready, but it was so good!
I even wondered why haven't done it often.
So, have you had pancakes late at night? Was it any good?
Are you like me and wonder why pancakes are so good at that late in the day?

MMM yes I love pancakes and have had them for dinner and or late night too. I think they are especially good because somehow our brain thinks it is only a breakfast food. I actually think that by having them outside of breakfast time, somehow we think they are an extra treat.

If you think pancakes in the middle of the night are so good you should try French toast. Yumm here in my family I have to make a lot of French toast late night snacks for my boyfriend. He loves it.

How on earth did they do that. I like the cooking shows. They show some pretty neat stuff on there.

Before we came away on holiday we had run out of cash and had no bread or breakfast cereals in the house. But we did have plenty of flour and our goats and chickens make sure we've always got the other pancake ingredients so we had pancakes every morning instead. They were marvellous, and I'm wondering if it is a tradition we shall continue.
The kids like them with sweet stuff like some maple syrup a visitor brought us, or chocolate spread. Personally I'd rather have a slice of soft cheese with mine.
Please don't read this as a criticism, but I find it hard to fathom why folk buy pancake mix in a packet. A great example of marketing winning over common sense! Even my kids can whip up a bit of pancake batter!

In the time it takes to add liquid to a pancake mix, you could add milk to some flour. Then the only additional time taken would be breaking an egg.
The thing that makes me hesitate about having pancakes as a regular feature in our household is the amount of mess that the kids make creating them! You would be astonished how far they can spread pancake toppings and I can't work out how pancake toppings can migrate so much further than, say, toast toppings. No, probably you wouldn't be astonished at all as you've kids yourself!

Unfortunately, it is not 'marketing' that is winning on our part. It is more of a convenience. I do remember a time when my mom used to make home made pancake with just flour. I don't think I could do that, as it is just easier to get a packet.
I would love to eat real pancakes from real/natural ingredients, as I could definitely taste something not-natural from those from a packet. Specially if the pancake is not cooked well enough.
You should make it a tradition!

I am never in the habit of eating late anyway. My eating activity stops round 7 or so which is what I think has resulted in my maintaining my weight. Now coming to your pancakes they taste yummy with maple syrup. I got this idea when I was in the US but sadly we do not get that syrup here. And who would not want to eat those pancakes no matter what part of the day it is. I would however prefer them at breakfast time.

Talking about late night snacks I remember when I was a teenager we used to eat what we call here 'kulfi' This guy would come selling the stuff from house to house. Eating at that part of the night had its own charm. All of us would be fast asleep till we heard this guy screaming out kulfi.kulfi..It hardly took us moments to be up and wait for his appearance. Those were the days.

I have downloaded this diet to start Monday as I have just finished eating pancakes with pepperoni sausage and syrup
It tasted so good. I finished the mix in the packet that was left from the twins being here. Oh was it just so good
Mind you pancakes at any time are good!

That's what you call a late night craving. Trust me don't feel bad when I was in high school after our football games our tradition was to go to Denny's and have breakfast especially pancakes my hubby and I used to split an order and there was nothing like it every Friday night that was our late night dinner.

I should try that natural pancake. To see if they taste better!
Wow...that does sound good..lol. We sometimes have "breakfast" for dinner here too. Breakfast food can be very very good in the evening. Does kind of make you wonder what made a difference in breakfast and dinner food....hmmmm.
